Registration Letter - Irvine Unified School District

Venado Middle School
A NATIONAL BLUE RIBBON AND CALIFORNIA DISTINGUISHED SCHOOL
April 14, 2015
Dear Parents and Guardians:
On behalf of our staff members, I would like to welcome you to Venado Middle School, home of the
Knights! As your child’s elementary years are quickly coming to a close, planning for middle school and
seventh grade has begun. A large part of planning for the next year is the registration process. This
letter contains important information about course descriptions, a school visit/assembly for all
incoming 7th graders, a parent night, submitting elective course requests and Open House. Please
review this letter carefully.
April 21, 2015 - Assembly for Incoming 7th Grade Students at Venado
On Tuesday, April 21, we will be hosting a special assembly for all incoming 7th graders. Due to space
limitations, this assembly is for students and teachers only. We will have a few student activities led by
our WEB: Where Everyone Belongs Team and an assembly where students will learn about their new
school and about classes, including electives, for next year.
School spirit is very important and a big part of student life at Venado. Please make sure your child
wears our school colors that day. Our school colors are black and gold/yellow.
If your child attends College Park, Deerfield, or Greentree Elementary Schools, your child will be
walking to Venado with his/her teacher and class. Students from other elementary schools are also
invited, but parents will need to sign their children out of the elementary school and provide
transportation to and from Venado for the assembly. Students should arrive at Venado at 10:30am.
Students will also need to be signed out by parents at the end of the assembly.
April 21, 2015 - Parent Night for the Parents of Incoming 7th Graders at Venado, 6:30-7:30pm
On Tuesday, April 21, we will host a Parent Night for all parents of incoming 7 th graders. The
presentation is from 6:30-7:30pm in The Commons. Presentation topics include the transition to
middle school, programs, courses and the elective course request process. Staff members will also be
on-hand to answer questions and clarify the registration process. This meeting is for parents only.
Between Wednesday, April 22 and Friday, May 8, 2015:
1. Please review Venado Middle School’s Course Descriptions 15-16 document. The document can be
found on our website by visiting www.venadoms.org  Registration  Spring Registration  Course

May 7, 2015 Open House, 5:30-8pm
Attending Open House with your child is a great way to facilitate the transition to middle school. Our
Open House will be held on Thursday, May 7, from 5:30-8:00pm. The evening begins at 5:30pm with a
traditional barbeque dinner. Dinners may be purchased ahead of time by completing the attached
order form and returning it to your child’s 6th grade teacher. Order forms are due by April 28. Dinners
will be available for purchase on the evening of Open House, but will only be guaranteed if purchased
in advance. Pick up your pre-ordered, dinner tickets in the BBQ area at Open House. During the
dinner, enjoy performances by Venado students on the outdoor stage.
The building and classrooms will be open from 6:30-8:30pm, giving you and your child the opportunity
to gain insight into student activities, class work and projects completed this year. Tours of our
campus will also be provided, beginning at 6:30pm on the outdoor stage for all new students and
families.
We look forward to meeting you and your child, as well as to working with him/her over the next two
years. If you have any questions, please the front office at 936-6800.
Sincerely,
Luis Torres, M.A., N.C.S.P #35272
