Fertility Insight Bulk Billed Cycle Tracking Maximise your chance of natural conception ivf.com.au | 1800 111 IVF Why is the timing of sex for conception so important? If you’re trying to fall pregnant, the timing of when you and your partner have sex is critical. The most fertile time in your menstrual cycle - or your fertile window - are the days leading up to ovulation, before the egg is released from the ovary. After ovulation, the egg survives for just 24 hours, while sperm retain fertilising capability for two to three days in the fallopian tubes. For this reason, we recommend couples have sex every two days throughout the females fertile window. This means that sperm are ready and waiting for the egg when the female ovulates. If you wait until after the female has ovulated before you have sex, you will most likely have missed the opportunity for conception that month. Why should I have my Cycle Tracked at IVFAustralia? Whether you have regular or irregular periods, if you’ve been trying to fall pregnant for a few months without success, we can confidently help you understand when your fertile window is. We do this by tracking your hormone cycle to ensure you’re aware when ovulation has taken place. This will help you to plan when to have sex, to give you the best chance of conception. How does Cycle Tracking work? Ovulation is triggered by a surge of hormones from the pituitary gland (Luteinsing Hormone). This normally takes place 24 hours before ovulation. We are able to carry out simple blood and ultrasound tests which detect this hormone surge, allowing us to advise you of the ideal time to have sex to achieve conception. Sounds easy! What do I do now? First, get a referral from your GP to our Clinic. Next, give us a call on 1800 111 483 to register your details, and interest in undergoing Cycle Tracking, with us. Then, on the first day of your period, call our friendly nursing team in our Clinic, who will advise you when you should begin the tracking process; and when your first appointment with us will be. This will be repeated over the following days, in addition to you undergoing an ultrasound scan. The combined results of these tests allow us to detect when your hormone surge will take place; and therefore when your fertile window is. Around two weeks later we’ll undertake another blood test which will allow us to detect hormone levels again. The results at this point will tell us whether you are pregnant. Where can I have my Cycle Tracked? You are welcome to have your Cycle Tracked at any of our Clinics. How much will Cycle Tracking cost me at IVFAustralia? Nothing. This service is bulk billed. Where can I get more information? You can call us on 1800 111 483, or email [email protected]. You can also fill out a ‘Contact Us’ form on our website, ivf.com.au, and we’ll call you back at a convenient time for you. If you’ve been trying to conceive naturally for 12 months or more… We all like to think that when the time is right falling pregnant will just happen. There are, however, many factors that contribute to a couple being able to conceive naturally. Age, diet, weight and your lifestyle can all play an important role, as do a variety of male and female biological factors that can be assessed and diagnosed by your doctor. One in six Australian couples, of reproductive age, experience difficulties conceiving a child. If you and your partner have been trying to become pregnant for 12 months unsuccessfully, it is time to talk with your local doctor, and sooner if you are over 35 years of age. A comprehensive assessment of your fertility can help you understand your fertility potential, and all your available options. Our expert fertility specialists can guide you through your test results and provide you with advice to help get your plans for a family underway sooner rather than later.
