Change can be difficult, but can also be fun! This year I was excited to bring our presence to the IVHS Awards Ceremony for the first time in 25 Years. Yes. That’s right! We have been awarding scholarships to our valley kids for 25 years, but this was the first time we joined other scholarship donors at the awards ceremony bringing much needed attention to our growing organization and introducing ourselves to younger alumni. This will sustain us as we grow in the coming years. However, to bring about this change you told us it was time to say goodbye to our popular voting procedure, but we know that the new process will propel us to attract younger faces as well as ease the workload of organizing ReunionMania every year. Our first scholarship 25 years ago was $300. This year we gave THREE $3,000 awards. Can we toast to that $9,000? And a second toast to another 25 years! WHY IT’S FUN . by Shanna Lee Rhoten Kopko ‘86 Why is it fun to attend reunions? So many of us get that reunion letter andthink “Oh, my goodness! It can’t bethat long. I can’t go! I’ve gained too much weight. I look old. I don’t wanna run into my old bully!” Well! Let me tell you something: Your bully has probably been married. Had kids. Maybe has some gray hair like you. She’s not the girl who shoved you into that locker anymore. She’s a lot like you, and might even apologize. It’s fun to laugh at how crazy it all was; the cliques, pep rallies, games, the teachers. Now we connect on a whole different level. I’ve been friends with a lot of you for almost forty years. I’m happy and proud of the way I grew up in the Illinois Valley. And even though we all live in different places now, we’re AND MORE FUN. The Class of 2000 Celebrating 15 Years Sunday July 5 - 2 p.m. “Catered in a Park” $15 [email protected] Gift Basket: Eat Your Heart Out still a community brought together by each other’s celebrations, marriages, births, deaths. Memories. Reunions give us that chance to hug one another and say “I’m glad you’re part of my life!” Come! Don’t miss out on all those hugs! The Caves! The Forks! Our old swimming hole has been greatly improved and has a new disc golf course. The Siskiyou Smokejumper Base Museum is simply super. Check out KUHS Memorial Park in Kerby. Take a zipline at Out ‘n’ About (gotta reserve). Go marvel at the Great Cats Animal Park and the Tigers at the Preservation Center. Especially Don’t Miss: We’ll be most welcome to breakfast at the Senior Center Saturday morning July 4th! $6.00 - 8 to 11 a.m. Yum.
