When leading up to the tests use your brain as much as possible; avoid using a calculator or writing on devices with spell checks and auto-correct. Your brain is a muscle so exercise it! In the test divide the time you have for the test into 3 parts – reading, answering and checking. Each question will state the number of marks available; make sure you include enough points or steps to get all the marks. Keep looking back at the questions/ instructions to make sure you are doing what the examiner has asked you to do. MATHS 5. 6. 7. Check your answers using the inverse sum. When using a calculator, press reset twice before each new sum and check each answer makes sense before writing it down. If asked to work out a number sentence involving measurements, percentages, fractions or money – make sure you put the required symbol on your final answer. ENGLISH 8. Read through any text provided carefully so you understand the extract before starting to answer the questions. 9. Some of the questions will ask you to pick out simple facts and details that are within the text. The information is there and it is an easy way to collect marks so make sure you double check you have the facts right. 10. Read your work through carefully for spelling mistakes, grammatical, punctuation and organisational errors such as missing words out.
