1 : RECORD/SHEET MUSIC
2 : MOVIE POSTER
Co-written by Jan Berry and Brian Wilson in 1963 this
record went to number one and defined teenage beach
culture in California in the early ‘60s. A 1976 surf film by Alan Rich and very collectable especially
as this particular poster shows the northern NSW dates! The
film had not only great footage of Shaun Tomson surfing
Cape St. Francis in South Africa but also Michael Peterson
and Paul Neilsen surfing Bells! Framed Surf City by Jan and Dean.
Estimate range $50 to $100
Framed Playgrounds in Paradise. Estimate range $200 to $300

The definitive surf film made by Alby Falzon in 1972
featuring that famous Michael Peterson cutback shown here
in the center spread and signed by MP himself! This item
comes from the estate of the late Benny King. One of Dick Hoole’s fabulous shots from that period in
surfing when MP was king, and once again Michael has
signed this along with Dick Hoole. Framed Morning of the Earth soundtrack. Estimate range $900 upwards

5 : 1970s SURFBOARD
6 : 1970s SURFBOARD
An original example of an early ‘70s swallow tail single fin
by local craftsman Joe Larkin who has also signed the deck.
This board was also part of the Ben King collection and has
been kept in repaired but not restored condition, so it could
still be ridden.
This board’s a bit beat up but it’s the rare Rabbit
Bartholomew model from the mid ‘70s, and would still
make a good rider for the single fin competitions! It’s a
fabulous hot dog shape and features a cool deck spray, and
if you ask Rabbit nicely he might even sign it for you! Estimate range $350 to $550
Estimate range $350 to $500
7 : 1970s SURFBOARD
8 : 1970s SURFBOARD
A beautiful little twin fin shaped by Bob McTavish featuring
a channel bottom. Bob has signed and dated this board at
1979 and it has just had a cosmetic restoration to keep
it as original as possible. A great rider or display board for
the wall. An excellent example of a mid ‘70s flyer pintail mini-gun
by the legendary waterman Dick van Straalen. I know Dick
didn’t make many boards featuring the bamboo logo which
also makes this board very collectable, plus it’s still in quite
good original condition. Estimate range $650 to $850
Estimate range $700 to $900

9 : 1970s SURFBOARD
8’0” McCoy. 10 : 1970s SURFBOARD
5’11” Rip Curl shaped by Wayne Lynch.
A rare original Reno Abelliro model island gun from the mid
‘70s. Yes the bottom’s brown but the deck displays well,
and it has a beautiful McCoy laminate by artist Shane Egan.
Although Reno did shape some boards during his trips to
Australia I think Geoff shaped this one under licence. What a ripper! A flyer swallow tail with fin box plus a nice
blue fade spray on the deck and it’s in great condition! Has
only had some cosmetic restoration in order to retain it’s
originality and value. This board has been signed by Wayne
and is museum quality. Estimate range $700 to $900
Estimate range $1300 to $1800
11 : 1960s SURFBOARD
Woosley 8’ stringerless shaped by Rod Teys in Brisbane.
12 : 1960s SURFBOARD 7’10”
McDonagh shaped by Geoff McCoy in the late 60s.
Typical pintail design from the period and although made
in Brisbane they were very popular on both the Sunshine
and Gold Coasts. This is a nice clean original example to
hang on the wall of the beach house or to take out for the
occasional surf!
Features include a hi-density foam stringer and Geoff’s
“loaded dome” reverse vee in the tail plus that period
perfect McDonagh logo on the deck! This would be a wild
little rider and is in fully repaired condition for surfing.
Estimate range $500 to $700

13 : 1960s SURFBOARD
Keyo 8’6” stringerless.
14 : 1960s SURFBOARD
Scott Dillon 8’6” stringerless.
This is typical of the type of board Nat and friends were
riding during the pre vee bottom period in 1967. Has had
the original fin moved up to make it ride super loose and
fast rail to rail. In repaired fully surfable condition these
boards are becoming really sought after!
What a wild beast, no not Dillon but this board! Check
out the rocker and the deep vee bottom. Probably a late
‘67 design commonly called the Plastic Fantastic period in
Australian surfing! Has everything: yellow and orange tint,
wild raked fin and trippy logo. Very good original condition.
Estimate range $800 to $1000
Estimate range $900 to $1200
15 : 1960s SURFBOARD
Dewey Weber Performer model.
16 : CONTEST PROGRAM
1966 NSW State Championships. Very rare collectable Californian board from 1966/7 and
in unrestored but repaired condition. This was probably the
most popular model manufactured by Weber, and has his
distinctive “hatchet” type fin and a funky floral deck inlay.
These were the perfect boards for hot-dogging!
Framed original Surf-riders Association program from the
collection of Australian champion surfer Richard Harvey.
These form an important part of Australian surfing history.
Sought after by museums and private collectors alike.
Rare to find in such good original condition.

Captain Goodvibes. Framed ‘70s original LP in aqua vinyl. 22 : T. SHIRT
Michael Peterson image. Voted the worst record of all time! That has helped to

23 : SKATEBOARD early 1960s. 24 : PLYWOOD BOARD
Beautifully crafted timber inlay deck with clay Chicago
wheels in excellent condition! No visible brand name but a
classic example of the ‘60s period. A restored hollow plywood “cigar box” or a kook box as we
called them on the Gold Coast! Estimate range $150 to $250

25 : PLYWOOD SURFBOARD
9’10” Okinui. 26 : BALSA SURFBOARD
9’7” Gordon Woods. Good example of Australian craftsmanship. These hollow
plywoods were based on the American Balsas that arrived
here in 1956. The first Aussie balsa boards didn’t start
appearing until 1958, so the hollows filled that gap for two
years. No surf collection is complete without one of these. A fully restored circa 1958 balsa board from Sydney master
craftsman Gordon Woods! This is an excellent example of
an Australian classic! Estimate range $3000 to $4000
Estimate range $2000 to $2500
27 : 1960s SURFBOARD
9’8” Gordon and Smith. 28 : 1960s SURFBOARD
9’8” Scott Dillon. T-band stringer, tail block, timber D fin. This black beauty looks to be a Californian made G&S from
the mid ‘60s, and features tail and nose blocks plus a
great two tone fin. The board would be an easy restoration
project, but could be surfed and/or hung on the wall just
as is! This is a rare Bob Pike Point Surf model from the early ‘60s.
Along with Dillon, Bob Pike was one of Australia’s legendary
big wave chargers. Between them they designed this style
of board for the bigger waves. Original watermarked and
sunburnt condition. An easy restoration project. Estimate range $1200 to $1600

Estimate range $600 to $800

29 : 1960s SURFBOARD
9’5” Hayden. 30 : 1960s SURFBOARD
10’5” Hayden. This is a circa ‘66 Ken Adler step deck model. Looks like a
good rider from the Sunshine Coast that has had an older
resto job and legrope plug added. Hayden longboards from
the mid to late ‘60s are very sought after and hold their
value well. Yes a 10’5” shaped by Kevin Platt on the Sunshine Coast!
This is one rare board from the 1966 era and has the look
of a top rider that’s still in original surfable condition with
dings repaired. Just wax it up and go! Estimate range $1000 to $1500
Estimate range $1300 to $1800
31 : 1960s SURFBOARD
9’4” Cord. 32 : 1960s SURFBOARD
9’7” Barry Bennett. A very rare and unusual Queensland board signed in pen by
both Bob McTavish and Kevin Platt on the laminate! Made
in 1967 after the pair left the Hayden and established the
Cord brand on the Sunshine Coast. Unrestored and the
yellow pigment job is the original. An unrestored mid ‘60s board from the Bennett factory
in Sydney, with great looking balsa and redwood T-band
stringer and nylon dork fin. The blue cigar band on the deck
is original.
Estimate range $1000 to $1400
Estimate range $800 to $1000

33 : 1960s SURFBOARD
9’6” Dale Competition Model. 34 : 1960s SURFBOARD
9’4” Dale. This is a circa 1965 model with a red fibreglass dork fin and
is in good unrestored condition. A circa 1966 nose rider model shaped by Ron Wade. Could
make a good rider and although it has a twist running
through the board it still shows really well on the wall! Estimate range $900 to $1200
Estimate range $1000 to $1200
35 : 1960s SURFBOARD
9’6” McDonagh. 36 : 1960s SURFBOARD
9’3” McDonagh. Circa 1967. Original unrestored condition! Modern board
for the time, glassed in 6oz instead of the usual 10oz and
an upright Hayden style pivot type fin and 1/4” redwood
stringer. Original red white and blue competition cigar band.
Last of the classic Australian longboards. Unreal condition! An early 1960s D fin model with twin stringers and in good
original condition, apart from a repair around the fin. Has
obviously been owned in the early days by someone called
A. Woolley, which adds a nice touch to it! Estimate range $1500 to $2000

37 : 1960s SURFBOARD
9’9” Joe Larkin. 38 : 1960s SURFBOARD
9’8” Bill Wallace. From circa 1964 with a reverse D fin and twin stringers,
and complete with 3 old surf permit stickers from
Randwick! Has been re-pigmented at some stage over the
years but at least they masked around the stickers and the
classic Joe Larkin decal. A circa 1966 triple stringer from Brookvale with Phil
Edwards influenced narrow speed nose. Lots of rocker, good
rails and a red dork fin. The owner tells us this is one real
good rider by the way! Unrestored condition. Estimate range $600 to $800
Estimate range $800 to $1100
39 : MOVIE POSTER. New Free Ride 40 : TRACKS POSTER. Oct 1973

footage by Dan Merkel, and this poster has been signed by
them as well as Rabbit, MP, PT and Shaun! Not just the original poster but also this lot includes the
magazine and the cover photograph by Dick Hoole! But
wait, there’s more! Yes also signatures from Wayne Lynch
who’s surfing in the cover shot, and Albert Falzon who was
