Let’s Talk Psoriasis event in Sligo Free event will offer people with psoriasis self-help strategies to improve happiness and wellbeing Dublin, X April 2015: People living with psoriasis are being encouraged to attend a free event entitled, Let’s Talk Psoriasis, which will take place on Friday, May 15th from 18:00 to 20:30 at The Glass House Hotel in Sligo. The event, which is supported by Janssen, promises to challenge the way people think about their psoriasis, and offer practical self-help strategies that aim to improve happiness and wellbeing. Guest speaker and Director for the Academy for Health Coaching, Dr Tim Anstiss, who specialises in psychological health and well-being improvement, will deliver a motivational talk on how people with psoriasis can take steps to protect and improve their health, wellbeing and happiness over time. “Chronic skin conditions like psoriasis can lead to negative feelings like sadness, anxiety, shame and sometimes even depression. And then these emotional states may in turn lead to flare ups and worsening of the condition – it can be a bit of a vicious cycle” said Dr Anstiss. “Let’s Talk Psoriasis will explore strategies for dealing with these unwanted feelings and ways to cultivate more positive emotional states and wellbeing. We will share self-help approaches for increasing acceptance, resilience and self-compassion with the aim of improving overall health and quality of life.” Dr Anstiss will share a range of tips for protecting and improving wellbeing, resilience and quality of life. Some of these include: clarifying your values and what is important to you in life, discovering and exploring your strengths, cultivating gratitude, refreshing goals, learning acceptance, being kind to yourself and others and detangling yourself from your thoughts. Ms Selene Daly, Clinical Nurse Specialist in Sligo Regional Hospital, will host the meeting said, “Let’s Talk Psoriasis really seeks to empower people living with psoriasis to take control of their condition and to adapt their lifestyle to achieve health and wellbeing improvements.” Caroline Irwin of the Irish Skin Foundation will also attend to share her personal experience of living with psoriasis, and the importance of being informed about the condition and accessing the right supports.
