Wowza Media Server® 3 is the industry’s multi-award-winning media server software
for live and on-demand video and audio streaming, recording and chat. But what about
streaming from satellite feeds to any device? Wowza Media Server 3 does that too.
Wowza Media Server is the end-to-end solution for companies that want to stream video
from satellite feeds to any device including IPTV set-top boxes, QuickTime® players,
iPhone®, iPad®, iPod®, Android™ devices, Nokia® devices, Roku® and Flash® players.
Getting started
Delivering high-quality media from satellite feeds to any device becomes simpler and more
cost-effective with Wowza, particularly with the Transcoder AddOn.
Streaming providers capture and transcode the MPEG transport stream (MPEG-TS) output
from an integrated receiver/decoder (IRD) to the H.264-encoded source that Wowza Media
Server 3 requires to support multi-screen delivery.

Wowza Media Systems offers an array of AddOns, additional tools that can be added
to the Wowza Media Server software to better deliver, transform, enhance, protect,
integrate and manage media streaming for live and on-demand content. The three most
commonly used AddOns for streaming from satellite feeds are the Wowza Transcoder
AddOn, the Wowza DRM AddOn and the Wowza nDVR AddOn.
Wowza® Transcoder AddOn:
Adding
the extras
Wowza Transcoder AddOn makes streaming from satellite feeds even easier. When an
MPEG-2 compressed stream is delivered by an IRD using MPEG-TS, the Wowza Transcoder
AddOn can be used to produce multiple H.264 streams for single and adaptive bitrates.
Then, Wowza Media Server 3 software can deliver the streams to all supported clients
simultaneously. The Transcoder AddOn will soon support additional audio and video
compression standards.
Wowza® DRM AddOn:
The Wowza DRM AddOn protects content by providing simultaneous key exchanges with
multiple DRM platforms. Content is encrypted on-the-ﬂy for Apple® HTTP Live Streaming
(HLS) and Microsoft Smooth Streaming for delivery to viewers on any device including
set-top boxes, connected TVs, smartphones and tablets.
Wowza DRM AddOn is compatible with:
• Verimatrix VCAS™ for Apple HLS devices with ViewRight™ clients
• Microsoft® PlayReady® for Microsoft Smooth Streaming clients
• BuyDRM KeyOS™ Platform for PlayReady DRM for PC, Mac, iOS, Android and
connected devices
• EZDRMTM Silverlight DRM, powered by PlayReady, for Microsoft Smooth Streaming clients

Wowza® nDVR AddOn:
Wowza nDVR AddOn enables the ability to time-shift content and use trickplay features
such as pause, play, and rewind on a live broadcast. The network-based functionality
removes the recording requirement from consumer hardware and places it on the media
server. Wowza nDVR enables any-screen playout from a live stream cache, signiﬁcantly
reducing cost by minimizing network storage requirements and simplifying the delivery
workﬂow for adaptive bitrate streaming with Smooth Streaming, HLS and HDS.
