Why:
Since 1982, the Jeanne Geiger Crisis Center has
responded to the needs of families in crisis due to
domestic violence. Our mission is to empower
individuals and engage communities to end
domestic violence. Using evidence-based best
practices and innovative approaches, the Center
mitigates the effects of trauma, prevents domestic
violence homicides, and engages communities in
promoting long term social change.
To break the cycle of violence before it affects the
next
generation, the Center offers three innovative and evidence-based education initiatives that provide boys and girls in our community with options
for a better life. The Youth Empowerment Services
(YES) Program includes:
 Empowering Girls through Girls Inc. of the
Seacoast Area (GISA);
 Promoting Healthy Relationships through Teen
Dating Violence Prevention; and,
 Engaging Young Men and Boys through
Bystander Education (MVP).

Through Girls Inc. of the Seacoast Area (GISA), the
Center has been inspiring girls ages 9 to 15 to be
“strong, smart, and bold” since 2008. A local affiliate
of the national Girls Inc.®, GISA uses evidencebased curricula that have been nationally tested and
evaluated to yield the desired outcomes of enabling
girls to think, create, communicate and lead courageously and independently. This year we are on track
to serve 450 school-age girls in our 10 town service
area.
