Jerome Country Club Club News President’s Message David King Once again, hello to all of you good people out there. It’s hard to believe, but you get better looking every day. I hope you all noticed that Jerome has again lived up to its reputation; ushering April in like a lion and ushering April out like a lion. We are going to lose an old friend soon, unless when you read this missive, she is already gone. The old dead poplar at number six-----she “ain’t” what she used to be. Every time the wind blows (just about every day), Bart frets about the safety of the pump house under the tree. So, hats off, she’s coming down. Some of our good members on the feminine side have approached me lately asking if they can please use the waste receptacle at the men’s tee boxes. They seem to have whiney voices when they make the request. It’s working ladies; we are soon (if not already) going to have waste receptacles at all of the forward tees. How do you like the new trap rakes? I told you they would all have teeth. Be careful with them. That means no rake throwing for dollars, and no hitting rake handles with sand wedges when things don’t work out as planned. For those of you who enroll your young people in the JCC Junior Golf Program, we have a new feature. You can purchase 10 round passes for use only by young people enrolled in the program, at a cost of $25 per 10 round pass. We are simply trying to protect the future of this Club. Enjoy. The extension of the #4 green has been sticking its tongue out at Bart from day one. Bart has extreme sensibilities and has had enough. He will teach that sassy green extension a lesson by sodding it with a bent grass (it may have already happened when you read this missive). Here’s a heads up. The promissory note for the back patio is down to $17,000 (from $80,000). That leaves one and one half years to pay the balance. Sue Skinner and Edna Pierson have spear-headed both the project itself and the repayment of the note. Sue and Edna are two of the best fund raisers I have ever met and we all owe them a debt of gratitude. Congratulations and a great big thank you for the participation in Work Day. There were approximately 75 hardy souls out there wielding shovels, rakes, and paint brushes; putting sand and seed in fairway divots; and performing other necessary tasks. This effort has given us a huge boost for the spring and it means a lot. You may have thought that the organization plan was “utter chaos.” Well, you were right. However, if you ask Josh Hagley, he will tell you that his plan was new age-----“organized chaos”. Thank you Josh, Bart, Bart’s crew, and all of the Greens Committee (Josh, Bart, Troy, Tom Pestotnik, Kay Feldtman, Pete Cantor, Sue Skinner, Edna Pierson, Tom Larsen, and Jack Kulm). Well, it’s been fun talking to you. In closing, I would like to encourage all of you to go to your favorite book store and purchase a copy of my book “The Principles of Good Living.” My publisher tells me that sales are flagging. You will find it in the philosophy section and it will be flagged “must read.” Play golf in the month of May and be kind to one another. From the Pro - Troy Vitek We enjoyed some wonderful weather this early spring, but the highlight so far has to be the JCC Workday. It is always a great day for members to pitch in and help out with whatever the grounds committee decides. Congratulations to the winners of the workday Scramble - John Harding, Birch Criswell and Brevin Jackson and “Thank You” to the JCC Men’s Golf association for the $500 purse that was contributed to pay off all of the Scramble Winners. The Invitation/Entry forms for the Men’s Member/Guest Tournament have been mailed out. The tournament is all ready nearly 50% full as of May 1st. Be sure to get your entry in so that you don’t miss out on this great event. And note that the June 13th & 14th date is one week earlier than last year. The Junior golfers will meet for instruction and to play golf on Tuesday and Thursday mornings thru July 23 rd. The Jr. Program is open to all children and grandchildren of members. The schedule will be available and signups will begin May 1 st . As the weather improves the golf course is being utilized by more players. Members are able to register for tee times a week in advance. If your group is less than four players, please make us aware of the number of players in your group.
