Jodi House to Become Service
Provider for State of California
Jodi House Brain Injury Support Center of Santa
Barbara has been selected as one of seven sites
statewide to receive State of California funding for
serving adults with traumatic brain injury. Jodi House
will receive $120,000 yearly for three years beginning
July 1st, with the option of an additional fourth year.
Supporting adults with TBI, the Jodi House model of
care is community reintegration and includes the
following services: supported living; independent
living skills; employment; information, referral, and
care coordination; and public and professional
education. The additional funding will allow Jodi
House to expand services to best meet the needs of
adult TBI population living throughout the tri-counties
region.
Volunteer Appreciation Day!
In recognition of National Volunteer Appreciation
Week, Jodi House held a party on April 17th in
celebration of the many volunteers who donate their
time and efforts to our program. Members showed their
gratitude by preparing beautiful hand-painted gifts for
each of the volunteers, as well as providing lots of
delicious food for everyone to enjoy. Staff presented
the gifts along with certificates of appreciation to wrap
up the day's festivities. Thank you to our wonderful
volunteers for all of their hard work!
BIACAL Statewide Conference on ATBI
Jodi House staff attended the Brain
Injury Association of California's 5th Annual Statewide
Conference on ATBI: Resources and Pathways to
Brain Injury Recovery on May 12th. Speakers
emphasized the importance of increasing
physical, cognitive, and social stimulation after a brain
injury. Breakout sessions included speakers on anger
management, personal empowerment, memory
rehabilitation and everyday strategies for success after
brain injury. The conference was a great way to learn
more about how we can improve our program and
affirm what we currently do!
Guest Speaker: Linda Beers
Linda Beers, Learning Disability Specialist at Santa
Barbara City College, visited Jodi House to speak
about services offered to students with disabilities
through the Disabled Student Programs and Services
(DSPS) department. Many of our members would like
to return to school either full time or part time, and the
information that Linda provided gave our members a
greater hope that this was definitely possible and that
there were services out there to assist them in
achieving this goal.
