FIGHTING FOR FAIRNESS Under both Tory and Lib Dems at our District Council second home council tax is discounted while the poorest pay out more. Hundreds of local families paying more under the bedroom tax. Labour would make a difference by fighting to end the second home discount, and fighting to end the bedroom tax. We would also do more to help families with the cost of living, including more credit unions to stop families turning to pay day loan companies. FIGHTING FOR A FAIRER DEAL FOR HOLT Our District Council seems to wrongly assume all of Holt is well off. Labour led the fight against increased parking charges in the town which has been used as a cash cow to fund the district. While paying in more, Holt seems to miss out on new opportunities to towns elsewhere. Budgets for facilities like gyms and swimming pools and leisure facilities ignore the town. We need a fairer deal for Holt. ON YOUR SIDE IN HOLT MAY 2015 ELECTION ADDRESS FROM NORTH NORFOLK LABOUR PARTY YOU HAVE TWO VOTES IN HOLT – MAKE THEM COUNT On May 7th you have a chance to vote for two new district councillors in Holt as well as a new MP. Jono Read has a proven track record of being on your side, and standing up for the many people of Holt and North Norfolk. FIGHTING FOR AFFORDABLE HOMES We do not need more expensive homes in Holt, we need homes that are affordable for local families. We also need smaller homes for the elderly wishing to ‘downsize’. A Labour government would legislate to ensure people who have lived in the local area for 3 years or more would be the priority for new homes. We will fight for more housing, but it needs to be sympathetic to our beautiful town too. Jono Rea d A GREENER NORTH NORFOLK We will put ‘green’ values at the core of our values. We will not allow fracking in North Norfolk. A Labour government will legislate for a fairer deal for bus and train users – fares have increased hugely in the past 5 years while services have been cut. Jono has fought for better timetables for residents on both our trains and bus services. Better and affordable services will ensure no one is left isolated, will help low paid workers, and help alleviate pressures on car parking. So when the government proposed slashing the local ambulance budget by £50m over the past 5 years, Jono Read took action. This was unthinkable at the same time as Holt residents were subjected to long delays for ambulances. He helped collect over 10,000 signatures against cuts from support from celebrities and ambulance workers. It led to a number of u-turns, and a change in leadership. Jono says: “I want our council to get more involved. We owe it to the wonderful NHS staff to continue to push for improvements.” FIGHTING AGAINST LONG WAITS FOR A GP AND AT A&E YOUR DISTRICT COUNCIL CANDIDATES FOR HOLT JONO READ DENISE BURKE Jono Read, 26, has lived in Holt all of his life. He has served as a town councillor for the past four years, and he has dedicated his spare time to campaigning for the town. He says: “All of the campaigns I’ve led on have set the agenda in North Norfolk. From ambulances to jobs to phone signal. I’ve a proven track record fighting for you. One long-standing councillor is no longer standing, so this presents an opportunity. The district council needs a shakeup. Elect me to get a fairer deal for Holt.” In her own words, Denise Burke says: “If elected I would fight for better local health and care services, for affordable homes, for better education and opportunities for young people, for proper coastal defences, for renewable energy and against fracking. As a former tax inspector, I would also fight for fair, effective taxation to tackle tax evasion and pay for better public services. Britain is still a wealthy country and we need to ensure that all North Norfolk residents can prosper.” FIGHTING FOR A BETTER SIGNAL Jono Read continues to push the phone networks for better basic phone signal in rural areas here, and for more 3G and 4G signal in our town. Jono is proud to have been part of the town council when it brought superfast broadband to Holt. This brings the very best for businesses, education, and for local homes. ON YOUR SIDE FIGHTING FOR JOBS TOM SHIRLEY The local Labour Party were quick to set up campaigns in support of saving jobs at the Cromer Crab Factory in 2011, and 2014 with the Heinz Factory in North Walsham. Jono Read successfully fought for new jobs at the proposed Aldi in Holt in 2014. Holt has been referred to as an ‘employment destination’ for nearby Sheringham and Cromer, but the jobs have not With the Lib Dems and UKIP talking about coalitions with surfaced. Tom Shirley lives locally and works for one of the town’s local businesses. As the youngest candidate at 25 he’s keen to see more job opportunities for local people, housing that is both affordable and benefits local families, and more support for local businesses. We must seek to open up employment land at the bottom of Hempstead Road to create new jobs and encourage businesses to Holt. Too many jobs are low paid, temporary or seasonal, and part time. We must change this. With an aging population we must also encourage more young Find out more about Denise at people into the care sector to look after our older www.deniseburke.info residents in North Norfolk. Denise Burke made national headlines on New Year’s Eve after revealing the great demand on A&E at the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital, she wants to see more services opened up at Cromer hospital to reduce pressures in Norwich. Jono has continued to feed back concerns to representatives of our local surgery the issues our residents face including concerns over waits to see GPs, and the need for flexible opening hours. Nationally Labour has pledged to rebuild our NHS using a mansion tax to reinstate the guarantee you’ll see a GP within 48 hours, a named midwife for every mother, and employment of 20,000 more nurses and 8,000 more GPs. YOUR GENERAL ELECTION CANDIDATE the Tories, only a vote for Labour in North Norfolk will send a clear message that you want a new government that stands up for the many, not the privileged few that the last government stood up for.
