May 19, 2015
Dear JPII Families,
The excitement is building among our students especially our 8th graders
who are counting down to the end of the year. These are dates that you may
need to plan for over the next few weeks:
•
May 27th is Fun and Field Day! This is a fun filled event for our
students and a celebration of a great school year. Our 7th graders
with the direction of Mr. Steelman have planned and will run all
events. We need parent volunteers to help monitor events. Your
time no matter how short will be appreciated.
•
May 27th the 8th graders are dismissed at 1 pm. Transportation must
be arranged by the parents. Please pick up near the church as the
parking lot near the school will be closed due to Fun & Field Day.
•
May 28th the 8th graders are off of school. Pictures and the
graduation prayer service will begin promptly at 6:30 pm. The 8th
graders should arrive no later than 6:15 pm.
•
May 29th is a noon dismissal. There will be bus service but no
latchkey. The building will be closing at 12:30 pm.
•
Office summer hours will be from 9 am – noon Monday through
Friday. The office will close for the summer on Friday, June 26th. It
will reopen on Monday, Aug. 3rd. Email will be the best and most
effective way to get ahold of the office staff.
2015-16 School Calendar, Supply List, and Summer Read Requirements are found on the JPII website.
Library Books and Fees are DUE NOW!
It is time to make sure all fees, textbooks, and library books are
returned to school. If fees are not paid and books not returned, report cards and records will not be released on the last
day of school. In the case of an 8th grader, he/she will not be permitted to attend the graduation ceremony.
Lunch: Beginning the week of May 25th, there will be no hot lunches served in the cafeteria. Students will have to bring
a packed lunch. Drinks and snacks will be available for purchase.
Spring Pictures: Spring pictures came home a few weeks ago. Select your favorite portrait and pay online! Go to
mylifetouch.com. Log in with your Portrait ID and Access Code, which is on your portrait package insert. If you do not
want the pictures please return the portraits to school.
Student Council Morning of Service: On Sunday our Student Council, some helpful parents, and even some JPII
alumni volunteered their time at the Ronald McDonald House in Cincinnati. Our students enjoyed cooking and serving
brunch to the many guests staying at this facility. They worked very hard and had a great time making a delicious meal!
Power of the Pen: On May 21st our students will compete in the State Power of the Pen Competition in Wooster. We
congratulate the following students for qualifying at this level: Patrick Mulcahey, Catherine House, Monica Dempsey and
Lizzie Mushaben!
First Graders Honor Moms: The First Graders honored their moms with a Mother’s Day
Tea! The Moms enjoyed this special time with their 1st grader.
Required Medical Forms for the 2015-2016 school year are available on the school website! They can be located under
“Current Families” and “Forms.” Forms for Kindergarten, Grades 1-8 and 7th Grade Tdap/TD forms are listed. All
students who need to take medication while at school are required by law to have a doctor’s order and signed permission
by a parent or guardian. For your convenience, this form is also available on the website. If you have any questions,
please feel free to contact Mrs. Sherwood at [email protected].
Summer Tutoring: Summer is right around the corner and many of you may be thinking about tutoring. We have
several teachers or subs that will be tutoring this summer:
Kelly Langenbrunner, Grades 4-8 Language Arts & Social Studies – [email protected],
Erin DeLaney, Grades 5-8 Math – [email protected],
Jeff Karpanty, Grades 5-8 – [email protected],
Gaye Ann Mengelkamp, Grades 5-8 Science & Math – [email protected],
Katie Lavelle, Grades K-2 – [email protected],
Alyson Ferello, Grades 1-3 – [email protected],
Martha Meacham, Grades K-5 - 513-706-0390 or [email protected].
If you have questions about which teacher would be a good fit for your child based on his/her need, contact your child’s
teacher.
KROGER COMMUNITY REWARD NEEDS YOUR ATTENTION: If you are already a member of the Kroger
Community Rewards you need to renew your card by indicating that you would like to benefit John Paul II. You just
need your Kroger Plus Card and an on-line account at Kroger. We have earned approximately $7000 in the last year.
This is an easy way to raise money for our school.
Tuition Letters: Just a reminder that non-parishioners must create their tuition accounts on FACTS as soon as possible.
The online deadline was last Friday. Directions were sent home last week. If you have any questions please contact Mrs.
Maureen Lewis - [email protected].
SUMMER-Accelerated Reader: Arrangements are being made for students to drop in to school during June and August
to take any AR quizzes they wish to take. This would be a good time for students to take the quiz for their required
Summer Reading books –click here for the complete list. All quizzes taken during the summer will count towards the first
trimester of the school year. More information will follow in the next newsletter.
Have a blessed week and remember you are the body of Christ. Let your words and actions spread His love.

Dear Parents/Guardians,
We are thrilled to offer our students in grades 4-8 an option of joining the school band in 2015-2016 school
year. Band will be a class that meets during the day, as well as one day a week after school. The classes during
the day will provide students with a high-quality small group instruction, while the entire band will meet
together after school to provide continuity as a larger ensemble. The band program will be open to
EVERYONE in grades 4-8, regardless of any instrumental experience.
In order to offer band during the day, it will be an elective that takes the place of general music class. The band
elective will cost $250 for the year. This fee does not include the cost of the instrument.
If your child is interested in participating in Band during the 2015-2016 school year, please complete the
registration form below and include a $25 registration fee (which will be applied to the cost of the class) by
Friday, May 22nd.
If you have any questions or concerns, do not hesitate to contact me. We are very excited to provide this
program to our students and hope your child will take advantage of this unique opportunity.
Mr. Howard
