Dear JPII Families, Kudos to the PTO and the many parent volunteers who spent the day with us last Friday. Kudos to our students and families for raising over $15,000 to benefit our school! The Walk-A-Thon was a huge success because of you! May is a beautiful month dedicated to our Blessed Virgin Mother, Mary and all mothers. Spend time this Sunday to show mom how very much she is loved. Blessed be all mothers Who have come into our lives Whose kindness, care and loving Remain with us to guide. Your inspiration in us Made us strive in every way Especially to remember Helping others makes our day. Mothers, you are so loved and cherished Invaluable, one and all. by Susan Kramer On behalf of the faculty and staff at JPIICS we thank all of our moms for the love and guidance you give to your children! We wish you a Mothers’ Day filled with moments of relaxation and many blessings. Our 1st graders will honor their moms during a Mothers’ Day Tea this Thursday, May 7th at 2:40 pm. In honor of our Blessed Mother, Mary, the students will crown her with a multitude of flowers. Everyone is welcome to join with us as we honor our Blessed Mother on Thursday, May 14th at 9:30 am in the church. Children will be asked to bring in a flower on this day to honor our Blessed Mother. Teacher Appreciation Week: May is not only the month to honor mothers but a week is dedicated in honoring teachers. This week is Teacher Appreciation Week! Our teachers dedicate themselves to making sure your children have a positive learning experience in and out of the classroom. Being a teacher in a Catholic school is a ministry that is modeled after Jesus. Their reward is not necessarily monetary, but comes in the form of a smile or hug from the students. It comes when a child’s eyes light up when he/she understands a new concept. It comes when the children help one another or a small thank you from a parent. Our teachers do not stop teaching at dismissal, they continue by volunteering their time to provide study groups, preparing students for the Talent Show, Academic Team, Bible Bowl, Model UN, coordinating Student Council, Activity Night, dances, Santa Sitters, SERVE, giving time on the weekends to support students at the Speech Contest, Power of the Pen, and working side by side with the students in a variety of service activities. Throughout this week, take a moment to honor your child’s teacher with a flower or a personalized note/email thanking them for the impact they are making with your child. 2nd Grade Special Person Day: On Thursday, May 7th, we welcome special persons in the 2nd grade. Our guests will join their 2nd grader at Mass at 9:30 am and then for a special treat in the 2nd grade classrooms. "ROCK THE SOCKS" returns on Wednesday, May 6th! Sport your craziest, wildest, or goofiest pair of socks at school! Donations for this out-of-sock-uniform experience will be given to Honor Flight - TriState. Help us reach our goal of $440, the amount that it costs to sponsor a WWII Veteran's day-trip to Washington, D.C. To honor our Veteran’s, you can greet them at the airport when they arrive home. The Honor Flight website is www.honorflighttristate.org. Here is this year's flight schedule: May 19, Aug. 18, Sept. 22, and Oct. 20. If you would like to take part in the welcome home ceremonies, arrive at CVG Airport by 10 p.m. in the lower level of the terminal (old Delta terminal). Spring Cleaning and Sale! Congratulations to our 7th grade students, Evan Haines and Jillian Leonard for being awarded a $500 scholarship from ESAP for their essay on how they used their time and talent to help someone in need this year! The JPII community is very proud of these recipients! ESAP: Again this year, due to the generosity of the Hubert Jr. Family Foundation and our parents, we are able to award over $24,000 in financial assistance to our school families. In order to generate this amount or more, the Hubert Family is providing us an opportunity to receive additional ESAP Matching Funds by participating in the Matching Program. When ESAP receives donations for the benefit of your school before Dec. 10, 2015, ESAP will match those gifts at a rate of 150%. Consider donating or having grandparents donate to this fund. The donation form can be found attached to this newsletter. A message from PTO: Thank you to all those that brought in Walk-a-Thon donations! So far we have collected just over $15,000! We will continue to collect donations this week. If you forgot to bring in your donations on Friday or know a business that still wants to donate please bring that to school this week in an envelope marked 'PTO Walk-a-Thon' with your child's name on it. We will be sure to credit your child for prize tickets. Prizes will be distributed Friday, May 15th. Last, but definitely not least, THANK YOU to all the parents, teachers and staff who helped make this event such a success! Special thanks to Troy and Krista Lands for DJ'ing our walk. This and our other fundraisers allow the PTO to support many programs, activities and special purchases for the school and students throughout the year. Library News: RETURN ALL BOOKS! The last day to check out library books was April 30th. All books must be returned by May 14th! If books are lost they must be paid for or replaced or report cards will be withheld in the office. Notices will be emailed to parents. Thank you for your help. If you have questions you can email Mrs. Acciani at [email protected].
