NOON DISMISSAL!
Dear JPII Families,
Kudos to the PTO and the many parent volunteers who spent the day with us
last Friday. Kudos to our students and families for raising over $15,000 to
benefit our school! The Walk-A-Thon was a huge success because of you!
May is a beautiful month dedicated to our Blessed Virgin Mother, Mary and
all mothers. Spend time this Sunday to show mom how very much she is
loved.
Blessed be all mothers
Who have come into our lives
Whose kindness, care and loving
Remain with us to guide.
Your inspiration in us
Made us strive in every way
Especially to remember
Helping others makes our day.
Mothers, you are so loved and cherished
Invaluable, one and all.
by Susan Kramer
On behalf of the faculty and staff at JPIICS we thank all of our moms for the
love and guidance you give to your children! We wish you a Mothers’ Day
filled with moments of relaxation and many blessings.
Our 1st graders will honor their moms during a Mothers’ Day Tea this
Thursday, May 7th at 2:40 pm.
In honor of our Blessed Mother, Mary, the students will crown her with a
multitude of flowers. Everyone is welcome to join with us as we honor our
Blessed Mother on Thursday, May 14th at 9:30 am in the church. Children
will be asked to bring in a flower on this day to honor our Blessed Mother.
Teacher Appreciation Week: May is not only the month to honor
mothers but a week is dedicated in honoring teachers. This week is
Teacher Appreciation Week! Our teachers dedicate themselves to
making sure your children have a positive learning experience in and out of
the classroom. Being a teacher in a Catholic school is a ministry that is
modeled after Jesus. Their reward is not necessarily monetary, but comes in
the form of a smile or hug from the students. It comes when a child’s eyes
light up when he/she understands a new concept. It comes when the children
help one another or a small thank you from a parent. Our teachers do not
stop teaching at dismissal, they continue by volunteering their time to provide study groups, preparing students for the
Talent Show, Academic Team, Bible Bowl, Model UN, coordinating Student Council, Activity Night, dances, Santa
Sitters, SERVE, giving time on the weekends to support students at the Speech Contest, Power of the Pen, and working
side by side with the students in a variety of service activities. Throughout this week, take a moment to honor your
child’s teacher with a flower or a personalized note/email thanking them for the impact they are making with your child.
2nd Grade Special Person Day: On Thursday, May 7th, we welcome special persons in the 2nd grade. Our guests will
join their 2nd grader at Mass at 9:30 am and then for a special treat in the 2nd grade classrooms.
"ROCK THE SOCKS" returns on Wednesday, May 6th! Sport your craziest, wildest, or goofiest pair
of socks at school! Donations for this out-of-sock-uniform experience will be given to Honor Flight - TriState.
Help us reach our goal of $440, the amount that it costs to sponsor a WWII Veteran's day-trip to
Washington, D.C.
To honor our Veteran’s, you can greet them at the airport when they arrive home. The Honor Flight website is
www.honorflighttristate.org.
Here is this year's flight schedule: May 19, Aug. 18, Sept. 22, and Oct. 20. If you would like to take part in the welcome
home ceremonies, arrive at CVG Airport by 10 p.m. in the lower level of the terminal (old Delta terminal).
Spring Cleaning and Sale! We have been spring cleaning! We have located a large number of student
desks and chairs that are no longer needed. We are selling each of these items for $1. If you are looking for
a desk and chair for your little student, let me know as these items are available NOW and must go!
Summer Tutoring: Summer is right around the corner and many of you may be thinking about tutoring.
We have several teachers or subs that will be tutoring this summer:

Tuition Rates for 2015-16: At the April School Board meeting the following tuition rates were approved for the 2015-16
school year.
•
•
•
•
Parish Rate: $3850 (Rate school charges parishes for their students.)
Non Parishioner: $4375 for grades 1-8 rate for students who are not affiliated with one at our member parishes.
All Day Kindergarten: $4050
Half Day Kindergarten: $2150

contact their parishioners about their payment options.
Scholarship Opportunities for St. Bart’s and OLR Parishioners: With tuition rates and tuition letters being
distributed, there are three additional scholarship opportunities. Two are for OLR parishioners only: The Fr. Bowes
Scholarship and F. Seton and Madeleine Staley Scholarship. The other scholarship is the Kohler Family Scholarship for
St. Bart’s parishioners only. All three of these applications are included in this newsletter. Take time to apply if you are
eligible. The OLR Scholarships should be mailed to OLR and the Kohler Scholarship should be sent to the school office.
Return all scholarships by Monday, May 11th.
Congratulations to our 7th grade students, Evan Haines and Jillian Leonard for being awarded a $500 scholarship from
ESAP for their essay on how they used their time and talent to help someone in need this year! The JPII community is
very proud of these recipients!
ESAP: Again this year, due to the generosity of the Hubert Jr. Family Foundation and our parents, we are able to award
over $24,000 in financial assistance to our school families. In order to generate this amount or more, the Hubert Family is
providing us an opportunity to receive additional ESAP Matching Funds by participating in the Matching Program.
When ESAP receives donations for the benefit of your school before Dec. 10, 2015, ESAP will match those gifts at a rate
of 150%. Consider donating or having grandparents donate to this fund. The donation form can be found attached to this
newsletter.
A message from PTO: Thank you to all those that brought in Walk-a-Thon donations! So far we have collected just
over $15,000! We will continue to collect donations this week. If you forgot to bring in your donations on Friday or
know a business that still wants to donate please bring that to school this week in an envelope marked 'PTO Walk-a-Thon'
with your child's name on it. We will be sure to credit your child for prize tickets. Prizes will be distributed Friday, May
15th.
Last, but definitely not least, THANK YOU to all the parents, teachers and staff who helped make this event such a
success! Special thanks to Troy and Krista Lands for DJ'ing our walk.
This and our other fundraisers allow the PTO to support many programs, activities and special purchases for the school
and students throughout the year.
Library News: RETURN ALL BOOKS! The last day to check out library books was April 30th. All books must be
returned by May 14th! If books are lost they must be paid for or replaced or report cards will be withheld in the office.
Notices will be emailed to parents. Thank you for your help. If you have questions you can email Mrs. Acciani at
[email protected].
KROGER COMMUNITY REWARD NEEDS YOUR ATTENTION: If you are already a member of the Kroger
Community Rewards you need to renew your card by indicating that you would like to benefit John Paul II. You just
need your Kroger Plus Card and an on-line account at Kroger. We have earned approximately $7000 in the last year.
This is an easy way to raise money for our school.
New to this program? Please check the flier attached.
Roger Bacon High School Underwater Hockey Summer Camp: In June 2015, the Roger Bacon High School
Underwater Hockey Team will host its ninth annual Roger Bacon Underwater Hockey summer camp for incoming (or
rising) 6th, 7th, and 8th grade students. Current junior high students will have fun learning the fundamentals of the
exciting sport of underwater hockey. The camp will be from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Monday, June 15 through Friday, June
19, 2015. The camp will be held at Xavier University in the O’Connor Sports Center pool. The cost is $50, and checks
should be made payable to “Roger Bacon High School.” Any family with an incoming 6th, 7th, or 8th grade student who
loves to swim and who would like to try underwater hockey should contact Coach Paul “Doc” Wittekind at
[email protected] for information and details about this summer’s underwater hockey summer camp.
Interested families may also register their child for the Roger Bacon Underwater Hockey summer camp at:

FATHER BOWES SCHOLARSHIP
APPLICATION
Purpose:
This scholarship was established in memory of Father Charlie Bowes who served as Pastor at OLR from 1998
until his death in 2008. The scholarship is in recognition of the high esteem he held for Catholic education.
OLR values student parishioners who lead through their commitments to academic excellence and community
service. The scholarship recognizes this. The scholarship is maintained through donations. This scholarship
is awarded yearly until further notice with applicants considered each year based on that year’s applications.
Past winners may re-apply.
This scholarship is intended to aid OLR families with expenses sending their children to John Paul II Catholic
School. We would like to recognize these extraordinary students and their service achievements though the
Father Bowes Scholarship. The amount of this award is $1,000.
Eligibility:
All students from OLR in the 6th, 7th, and/or 8th grade at John Paul II Catholic School are encouraged to apply.
