Winter is upon us. And with the cold winds showing no mercy on our tresses,
now more than ever is the time to protect your hair with regular Hot Oil
Treatments.
“Hot oil treatment is used to give hair moisture and prevent breakage.”
How?
Hot Oil Treatments allows for necessary oils to be deposited back into the hair to
prevent over-drying, which contributes to breakage. It also provides the hair with a
deep conditioning treatment.
How does it work?
A Hot Oil Treatment can help repair damaged and weak hair as every strand gets
the treatment it needs instantly when the oil is applied.
It is for ALL types of hair, and you can customize it for your mane, regardless of
its texture or typical condition. The key is to choose the right ingredients for your
hair type.
Choosing Your Oils:






Jojoba oil: Best choice of oil. The constitution of jojoba oil is much like
that of our own natural skin and hair oils. Jojoba oil is also very beneficial
for hair because it is also rich in vitamin E and has a long-lasting penetrative
nature.
Avocado oil: Is one of the most nutritious and moisturizing oils you can
find. It is a particularly good choice for those with really dry and frizzy hair.
Grapeseed Oil: It is an odourless and non-greasy oil. It can easily be
absorbed by the scalp and hair, making hair shiny and soft. Dandruff
problems can also be solved using this oil as its penetrating properties
prevent dryness and breakage.
Flax Oil: Is very high in vitamin E and rich in essential fatty acids. It
contains the highest amount of omega-3 fatty acids as well as other
nutrients.
Macadamia Oil: Like Jojoba Oil is amongst the few oils that contains high
amounts of palmitoleic acid also found in human sebum.
Hemp Oil: High in Omega fatty acids and proteins which are quite healthy
for the skin and hair.
How to do a Hot Oil Treatment
Step 1: Put your mix of oils in a heat safe plastic or glass container and place in a
pot/bowl of hot water for a few minutes (some people microwave the oils to heat
them but doing that risks overheating the oils as well as losing their nutrients).
Step 2: Divide your hair into 4-6 sections and apply your oil mix throughout each
section. Make sure to put oil on every layer of your hair. The hair does not have to
be overly greasy, just slightly oily.
Step 3: Cover your hair with a plastic cap. If you have a bonnet-style hair dryer at
home, you can sit under the dryer or you can wrap a towel around your head to
keep the heat in. If you want some extra heat from your towel, you can dip it in
hot water to make it hot. Squeeze out the excess water and wrap towel around your
head.
Step 4: Leave the oil on your hair for 20-30min. Some say it's better to keep the oil
on longer (even overnight), but you'll have to decide for yourself.
Step 5: Wash and condition your hair.
Step 6: For the best results, use hot oil treatments regularly in your hair. Some
people use hot oil treatments monthly, biweekly, or weekly, but how frequently
you do a treatment depends on your hair's texture and conditioning.
