Battle of the Books Congratulations to the following students for making our Battle of the Books teams this year. Two of our teams needed to take a test to determine the top three spots, as we had a lot of students trying out. Our fourth spot is for our alternate in case someone is away on the day of our Battle. The grade 3/4 Battle will start promptly at 12:30pm with each grade taking about 40 minutes to complete. Parents are more than welcome to come and watch their kids compete. The top two teams from each grade will advance to the District finals on Thursday, April 23rd. Good luck to all of our teams! Read Around the Planet Read Around the Planet is a celebration of Read Across America. Classrooms use interactive video conferencing toconnect with other classrooms and celebrate reading. This year we had eight classes working with Mrs. Gorman in the library on these connections. We were able to talk with classes from: Oklahoma, Nebraska, Michigan, Virginia, Texas, Ohio and Kansas. School Calendar for 2015 April May June 3 6 7 20 1 11 18 25 26 Good Friday Easter Monday Day of Recognition Assembly9:15 am District Inservice Day Class Photos District Inservice Day Victoria Day Last Day for Students Administrative Day “Day of Sucwentweew” Assembly Schools all across School District No. 73 will be holding assemblies to honour and recognize the Secwepemc (se kwep mec) and Nlaka'Pamux (NaKa Pamoo) territory as well as other First Nations and Aboriginal groups. In our district this day is now knows as the “Day of Sucwentweew” (soo kwem twaa). This means we acknowledge one another. During this day a number of assemblies and events will be held to teach staff and students about the traditional First Nation's people and their territories and the history of the original people who occupied our School District. We will have a general assembly at Juniper Ridge Elementary at 9:15 am April 7, 2015 and we would like to extend an invitation to parents that are able to attend. Juniper Ridge PAC Update April 1st – Online hot lunch registration deadline – no more orders accepted after today April 10th – Hot Lunch – Senor Froggys April 15th – 6:30pm PAC Meeting - Childcare provided!!! April 17th – Movie Night “Strange Magic” in the gym. Doors open at 5:30. Movie starts at 6:00 April 17th - Hot Lunch – McDonalds April 24th – Hot Lunch – Chopped Leaf April 30th – Hot Lunch – Little Caesers We would really like to see more parents come out to PAC meetings. They are fun and informative and help you to get a sense of what happens at the school. Movie Night - “Strange Magic” will be playing in the gym on Friday, April 17th. Doors open at 5:30. Movie starts at 6:00 pm. Admission by donation, and there will be goodies for sale. You are welcome to wear your jammies and bring a blanket. Other PAC initiatives Junk for Jungle Gym – The PAC is looking for “junk” to sell at the Juniper Community Garage Sale to help finance the intermediate playground. Donate your junk to the PAC and WE will sell it to raise money for the new intermediate playground structure. We will even pick it up! Drop off of “junk” will be accepted in the community room on April 30 & May 1 Spring Carnival – is set for May 8th from 4pm to 8pm. We are trying to encourage primary children to come from 4-6pm and intermediate children to come from 6pm to 8pm but everyone is welcome for the entire time. There will be bouncy castles, a cake walk, food and lots and lots of games.We are going to need a ton of volunteers - everything from cake bakers for the cake walk to game supervisors to food vendors. We also need empty ice cream buckets with lids and toilet paper rolls for games (which can be dropped off in the office). Staff Appreciation Lunch - Every year the parents host a meal for the wonderful teachers and staff at JRES. We are still working out the details but the meal is June 10th and we are looking for volunteers to help out. Watch the blog site for more details - http://jrespac.com/
