Battle of the Books
Congratulations to the following students for
making our Battle of the Books teams this year.
Two of our teams needed to take a test to
determine the top three spots, as we had a lot
of students trying out. Our fourth spot is for
our alternate in case someone is away on the
day of our Battle.

Read Around the Planet
Read Around the Planet is a celebration of Read
Across America. Classrooms use interactive
video conferencing toconnect with other
classrooms
and
celebrate
reading.
This year we had eight classes working with
Mrs. Gorman in the library on these
connections. We were able to talk with classes
from: Oklahoma, Nebraska, Michigan, Virginia,
Texas, Ohio and Kansas.

“Day of Sucwentweew” Assembly
Schools all across School District No. 73 will be
holding assemblies to honour and recognize the
Secwepemc (se kwep mec) and Nlaka'Pamux (NaKa
Pamoo) territory as well as other First Nations and
Aboriginal groups.
In our district this day is now knows as the “Day of
Sucwentweew” (soo kwem twaa). This means we
acknowledge one another. During this day a number
of assemblies and events will be held to teach staff
and students about the traditional First Nation's
people and their territories and the history of the
original people who occupied our School District.
We will have a general assembly at Juniper Ridge
Elementary at 9:15 am April 7, 2015 and we would
like to extend an invitation to parents that are able
to attend.

time. There will be bouncy castles, a cake walk, food
and lots and lots of games. We are going to need a ton
of volunteers - everything from cake bakers for the
cake walk to game supervisors to food vendors. We also
need empty ice cream buckets with lids and toilet paper
rolls for games (which can be dropped off in the
office).
Staff Appreciation Lunch - Every year the parents
host a meal for the wonderful teachers and staff at
JRES. We are still working out the details but the meal
is June 10th and we are looking for volunteers to help
out. Watch the blog site for more details
