The following scholarships are available to an eligible graduating senior from Kamiakin High School. These
scholarships will be awarded without regard to race, sex, religion, or ethnic origin. Scholarships will be awarded based on
financial need, extra-curricular activities, community service and GPA standing.
Tom Anderlik Memorial Scholarship Tom Anderlik graduated from Kamiakin in 1990. He was an average student
with a career goal in law enforcement. On August 16, 1991, Tom stopped to help a motorist on a California freeway. He
was struck and killed by an oncoming car. Tom will be remembered for his sense of humor and his exceptional concern
for family, friends, and the community. This scholarship will be awarded to an applicant with similar qualities. The
Foundation's scholarship program will provide a $750 scholarship paid directly to the institute of higher learning the
recipient elects to attend. Recipient must be a graduating senior from Kamiakin High School with a GPA of 2.5 or higher.
Sally Jo Joseph Educational Scholarship Sally Jo Joseph taught English and Humanities in the Kennewick School
system for 32 years, retiring from Kennewick High School. Sally Jo died from health complications in the summer of
2001. She stressed the values of reading, appreciation of the Humanities and emphasized lifelong learning. Developing
leadership skills is important and she encouraged participation in school and community activities. The Foundation's
scholarship program will provide one $10,000 (4 years @ $2,500) paid directly to the institute of higher learning within
the state of Washington. Recipient must be a graduating senior from the Kennewick School district with a GPA of
3.0 or higher and planning a career in teaching or the liberal arts.
Kennewick Highland Grange Science Scholarship The Foundation's scholarship program will provide a $1,000
scholarship paid directly to the institute of higher learning the recipient elects to attend. The Kennewick Highland Grange
provided this scholarship in 1988. Recipient must be a graduating senior from Kennewick School district and
planning a career in a science related field. Mathematics and Engineering qualify.
Terry M. Tanneberg Memorial Scholarship Terry Tanneberg began her career as a teacher for the Kennewick
School District in 1976. She taught at Hawthorne and Southgate Elementary Schools for fourteen years before being
named Principal of Sunset View Elementary in 1990. She continued as a Principal with the Kennewick School District
until 2003, when she was forced into retirement due to melanoma. She lost her battle with melanoma and passed away on
August 26, 2003. Terry believed strongly that all children had the capacity to learn and strived to provide quality
educational opportunities for all students. She believed that education was a life long opportunity and continually strived
to make life better, for everyone she came into contact with, through the educational process. The Foundation's
Scholarship program will provide a $750 scholarship paid directly to the institute of higher learning the recipient elects to
attend. Recipient must be a graduating senior from the Kennewick School District and planning a career in
education.
Faurot Family Endowment Scholarship Mr. and Mrs. Faurot retired to the Kennewick community in 1992. Mr.
Faurot passed away in 1995. Mrs. Faurot passed away in 2004. They both demonstrated significant charitable
commitment to the community. Mrs. Faurot came from a large family that did not have the resources to assist all of the
children to further their education. Mrs. Faurot made a gift in 2002 to establish an endowment for students in the
Kennewick School District. Through the endowment the Kennewick School Foundation will provide two $1,500
scholarships paid directly to the institute of higher learning the recipient elects to attend. Recipient must be a graduating
senior from the Kennewick School District and have GPA of 2.5 or higher. The scholarship is to focus on students
that have a strong financial need. Eligible schools for further education would include community colleges, vocational
and tech schools as well as four-year universities.

Eligibility:
 Applicants must be children of WRPS employees. The term “children” includes natural children, adopted
children, stepchildren and legal wards.
 The applicant’s parent must be employed by WRPS for a period of one year or more as of May 1, 2015.
 Students must be in their last year in public, private, home or parochial high schools. Last year of high
school includes students who will enter or continue college after January 1, 2015, but before January 1,
2016.
 The applicant must be in the last year of high school and will graduate after November 1, 2014, but before

The Kiwanis Club of the Columbia will be awarding a $1,000.00 college scholarship to a Senior at Kamiakin High School in
June of 2015. The Scholarship is based on the “well rounded” student who shows pride and dedication in school, family and
community. Applications and resumes will be due by April 1, 2015. The recipient of the scholarship will be asked to attend
a meeting of the Kiwanis Club of the Columbia and do a short presentation of the qualifications for the award. This is a onetime scholarship.
SCHOLARSHIP CRITERIA

determination. The determination of the scholarship winner will be made by May 10, 2014. The scholarship will be awarded
based upon a determination of the committee using the following criteria:
a)
Employment: must be employed either during the school year or in the summer;
b)
Community Service Activities (Very important): these are volunteer activities, the volunteer
activities should be broken down by organization involved with and number of hours volunteered;
c)
School Extra-Curricular Activities: clubs, sports, organizations, band etc.;
d)
Grades: requires at least a 3.0 GPA, copy of most recent transcript should be attached to application.
As you can see, grades are not the most important aspect of this scholarship, it will not be “weighted” for grade point average
above 3.0, we are looking for the well rounded student.
THE RESUME IS VERY IMPORTANT, AND SHOULD ADDRESS ALL OF THE CRITERIA IN DETAIL. THE
RESUME IS THE SOLE BASIS THAT THE COMMITTEE SELECTS THE SCHOLARSHIP WINNER ON.
Name: Kennewick Kiwanis Foundation Scholarships

The Kennewick Kiwanis Foundation will support a minimum of two scholarships for the 2014-2015 academic year. The
purposes of all available scholarships are to provide assistance for high school seniors enrolling in institutions of higher
education in the fall term of 2015. A minimum of one four-year $1,000 renewable scholarship and one one-year $1,000
scholarship will be announced by May 31, 2015. The Foundation scholarship awards are cash awards conditioned upon
confirmed enrollment in the accredited institution of choice. One-year Foundation scholarships are a one-time award.
Four-year scholarships are annually renewed for three additional consecutive years based on continued successful
enrollment and annual requests and reports to the Kennewick Kiwanis Foundation.

Yakima Federal Savings and Loan "Award for Academic Excellence" has been established for the purpose of assisting

GENERAL QUALIFICATIONS:
