--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Once again the Athabasca Career Fair takes flight for the schools in Fond du Lac, Black
Lake, and Wollaston with employers and career & employment advisors to bring
northern youth closer to success in the economy of the province of Saskatchewan. In
2013 we had 6. In 2014 we had 10. This year we will have over 16 guests attending.
A new event “Hands On Careers” is featured in mornings for high school students.
Youth who are pre-registered will learn about different trades and skills “hands on” with
an instructor/mentor who will guide them through some basic skills training. Students
will work one-on-one with a workplace mentor in groups of four for about 15 minutes
each per station before moving on to other tables.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Clarence Neault said about the career fair: “We expect 15 displayers from all over
Saskatchewan, and over 200 students from the Athabasca Basin to participate and
engage. Teachers north-wide have been busy preparing students in the classroom for
the event. Exposure to careers on this scale has an impact and leaves a lasting
impression on students, many of whom who would not ordinarily have this opportunity”.
Neault further stated that “Educators and students have been repeatedly requesting
hands on experiences. This year we are pleased to meet that request, with thanks to all
of the employers and skilled workers who have agreed to share their time and skills.”
