Dean, Faculty of Business
Athabasca University invites applications for the Dean, Faculty of Business. This appointment will commence July
2015 or soon thereafter.
Athabasca University is a publicly-funded comprehensive and research intensive university in the province of
Alberta. The University offers a range of certificate, diploma, undergraduate and graduate programs and courses
leading to degrees in Humanities and Social Sciences, Business, Distance Education, Health Disciplines and Science

The Faculty of Business offers flexible, dynamic, and relevant business education across a full spectrum of
education options, from undergraduate courses through to a doctoral degree, as well as a suite of customized,
master’s level, corporate learning opportunities. Developed and taught by leading and distributed academic
faculty and business experts, our courses and programs give students the expertise and skills they require to
succeed in today’s fast-paced and globally connected world of business.
Twenty years ago, the Faculty of Business offered the world’s first online MBA program. That program is now
Canada’s largest MBA program and ranks among the world’s best. The Faculty continues to build on its tradition of
innovation and excellence in graduate management education, launching Canada’s first online DBA in 2009. Most
recently, the Faculty of Business successfully launched the world’s first hockey-specific Executive MBA program.
The Dean is expected to guide the Faculty in fulfilling its commitments to teaching, research and service. The Dean
is also responsible for contributing to the achievement of the goals identified in the Strategic University Plan. The
Dean reports directly to the Vice-President, Academic and, as a member of the Deans’ Council, is expected to make
a significant contribution to the governance of the university.
The ideal candidate will hold a PhD and will be a dynamic, innovative leader. She or he will possess an open,
collegial style; proven administrative, fiscal management, communications and interpersonal skills; and, a solid
scholarly and professional record. Most important, the Dean must have the ability to inspire faculty and staff and
be capable of building and sustaining positive relations with all constituents.
The Faculty of Business has offices in Edmonton, AB and Athabasca, AB. The candidate has the option of residing
anywhere in Alberta; however travel to Athabasca University campuses is required.
