We are well into the school year and our learning programmes are being fully implemented. We expect our
students to be at school on time and in the right uniform, we are a school that actively promotes positive
relationships and our students are encouraged to set high academic, social and cultural standards. Please
encourage your child/ren to be at school on time, prepared for their learning day and working to achieve
progress through our We Are Kelston Taumata levels. It is because of these factors that we do not support
behaviours that are not part of our school culture, we expect great things from our students and they need to
expect great things from us!
We have our first Formal Assembly this Friday which will be run by our school prefects. During this assembly
we share what is happening in our school and students are also acknowledged for achieving new Taumata
levels, please feel free to join us for these assemblies as our whanau are always welcomed in our school.
Personal Learning Plans:
On the 17th of March we will be having our first Goal setting evening for the year. We will be developing
personal learning plans which will have your child’s current learning and Taumata levels with spaces to set
some specific goals between now and our mid-year Student Led Conferences. Included in this newsletter is a
letter explaining how this evening will work and time slots for you to book your interview times. Please fill it in
and get it back to us so we can book you in!

Park safely outside schools: Before and after school is a busy time
for everyone. Parking rules help protect our children and keep them
safe. Drivers who park illegally put our kids at risk. This term parking
officers will be on patrol outside your school to issue tickets to those
who are illegally parked.
Thank you for your cooperation in keeping our students safe.

Uniform: We are now in week 6 and students for one reason or
another are wearing incorrect school shoes. Students must bring a
note from home with explanation for the incorrect shoes, only upon
receiving the note home will they receive a uniform pass. No note
from home will result in a detention at lunch time outside the library.
Uniform: All students must wear full school uniform to and from
school at all times. The only exception is if students are attending
elite fitness in the mornings, only then can students can wear P.E
gear to school.
Water bottles: students should bring water bottles to school, and
drink water often. Our extended summer and hot days have meant
that students are often dehydrated during the day. Please encourage
your child/ren to bring a water bottle to school.

Starts Week 6, term 1.
Dear parents/caregivers,
At Kelston Intermediate School, we offer our students both the opportunity and the environment to
complete their homework at the K.I.S Brain Gym.
Brain Gym is open on Monday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons from 3:15-4:15 pm. There is no cost and
all of our students are welcome to attend as many days of the week that suits them and their whanau.
We operate in the library, were students are able to utilise the library books and computers in order to do
research if required. The objective of the Brain Gym is to provide an encouraging, supportive and a wellresourced environment that encourages our students to feel a sense of achievement and improve their level
of understanding.
The teachers/staff who run the Brain Gym actively support, question and challenge our students to think
critically about their learning. Students are always welcome to ask for help from the teachers and also
support each other in order to achieve a greater understanding about any area of learning.
So parents/caregivers & students, if you would like to sign up for Brain Gym then please fill in the
permission slip and return it to the front office. Brain Gym will be running for the entire school year (not on
