Kemnay Junior Section Update With the second month of the season almost at an end the Junior section has been a pleasure to work with. With this in mind I thought it would be an idea to let the rest of the club's membership know what has been happening - we are aware that this email may just be deleted....but for those who might be interested here goes! We had our official start of the season meeting where the Juniors were given a lot of new information to take on board, and had to listen to people (mainly me) doing a lot of talking because of the changes taking place this season. We ran an online quiz and our Junior Captain Fraser Cheyne's team won (no it wasn't a fix!) This year the juniors are taking part in the Aberdeen District Junior Pennant League (ADJPL) and for the first time ever I think, the Felicity Trophy (FT) in the format of 8 scratch matches. We have been given a win against Oldmeldrum in the ADJPL as they can no longer field a team and play Cruden Bay at home this weekend (hoping the trees are our friends that day) and Banchory away on the 31st - If you are free this weekend from 1.30pm your support would be very welcome! We played Inverallochy at home in the first round of the FT and secured a first round victory of 5.5 to 2.5 so all to play for in the away leg which is still to be confirmed. We have 2 girls in the process of getting their handicap having progressed to the transition group from their ClubGolf coaching and 2 playing in the junior medal each week. There are more girls coming through the coaching, which is great news for the junior and ladies section as they progress through the ranks. A big thank you must go to all our volunteer coaches who give up their time on a Monday night. Karen Scott is always on the lookout for members who would like to assist with coaching on a Monday night - whether it's to become a coach or a helper please get in touch if you are keen. I went out and watched the Monday night medal on the 20 th April to see them all in action. I am not sure if the club are aware how great a junior section we have - they all looked very smart and played really well - and they were playing to the speed expected of anyone playing our course. Well done to Cameron Carnegie (pictured right) and Kiran Nolan (pictured left) for representing Kemnay in the Scottish Boys Championship at Dunbar in April, and congratulations to Cameron for finishing 1st Scratch (74 BiH) at Royal Dornoch's Junior Open! We have had a few handicap cuts already: Alex Cochrane, Stuart Smith, Jack Chalmers, Thomas Simons, Reece Brown, Harry Innes and Callum Scott who also qualified to represent Kemnay in the Hector Dey Trophy being played at Inverurie in July. Well played to them all! Kemnay's Junior Open is being sponsored by Bristow's this year and it's also an Order of Merit Open for the District - hopefully this will mean that we get plenty of entries in July. Can I remind all members that Monday night is Junior night so if you decide to play a match that night the tee is normally booked until 6pm (and until 7pm when Clubgolf use the main course). If you choose to play and end up behind the juniors please be patient as this is their medal night! Kemnay Junior Committee May 2015
