A Year of Continued Growth
On July 1, 2011, the Hanley Center and Caron Treatment
Centers entered into a one-year management relationship
that led to the Hanley Center officially becoming part of Caron
on July 1, 2012. As a result of this unification of industry
leaders, the Caron organization is now the largest and most
comprehensive non-profit addiction treatment provider in
the United States when measured by residential treatment
services revenue.
While it is impressive to say that Caron is the largest treatment
provider in the country, what really matters is the fact that
we are able to provide the most comprehensive residential
continuum of care to meet the unique and specific treatment
needs of a broad and diversified patient population such as
adolescents and teens, young adults, adults, Baby Boomers,
older adults and families.
While it is impressive to say that this past year Caron provided
more charity care than any other treatment center in the
country, what really matters is that those scholarship dollars
helped people we know in our communities be able to access
world-class care at Caron. Removing financial barriers for our
friends and neighbors really does matter.
While it is impressive to say that Caron has more regional
offices with locations now in New York City, Philadelphia,
Washington, D.C., Boston, and Bermuda, what really matters
is that Caron is more accessible both before and after treatment
for residents of some of the largest cities in the Northeast.
That personal touch, individual service, and easy accessibility
are what really matters.
While it is impressive to say that, at nearly six decades old,
Caron is one of the oldest treatment centers in the United
States, what really matters is the confidence in knowing that
Caron has stood the test of time and will do so in the future.
Regardless of the uncertain economic condition of our
country, Caron will have the resources to never compromise
our care — this is what really matters.
All of us at Caron would like to extend a special
thanks to Michael McGlinn who in 2012 completed
his three-year term as Chairman of the Board of
Trustees. Michael's outstanding leadership and
dedication to Caron Treatment Centers has been
unwavering. We welcome back Benjamin J. Zintak III
as the new Chairman; Ben previously served
in this position from 2005-2008.
While it is impressive to say that Caron does extensive research
with the National Institute of Health and the University of
Pennsylvania, what really matters is that Caron strives daily to
“raise the bar” on outcomes to ensure that individuals really
do have the tools to pursue Recovery For Life.
While it is impressive that Caron has so many leading experts
in the field on its staff, what really matters is that when you
need advice because someone you care about is in a challenging
situation as result of his or her addiction, you can have access
to these experts. What really matters is not only their
expertise, but how much they care and their willingness to
be of service.
With its size, program offerings, expertise, beautiful buildings,
and so much more, Caron has indeed become an impressive
organization. What really matters to all of us is that every
individual who comes to Caron is treated with dignity and
respect, and provided the necessary tools, so that he or she
can begin a new life in recovery. We know this is what matters
to every patient — it is also what really matters to all of us
at Caron.
A special thanks to everyone who participated on that journey
with us this past year.
Sincerely,
Douglas Tieman, Caron President/CEO
and Michael McGlinn, Immediate Past Chairman,
Caron Board of Trustees
