In the northern most part of Norrland in Sweden – there is an area known
as Lapland. Located in the Arctic Circle, it is also extremely cold.
What is the population of Lapland? Tell your
classmate (or write) why it is like this.
The harsh climate makes it difficult for people
to live there on an ongoing basis. In Sweden, the
average number of people per square mile is 188. In
Lapland, it is two.

They have pursued a variety of ways to
make a living, including fishing, fur trapping and sheep herding
The surroundings or conditions in which a

Traditionally, the biggest way they make their living is through reindeer herding.
They are the only people in the Nordic countries that are allowed to raise and herd
reindeer, which they use for meat, fur and transportation
(students should draw extremely harsh cold
surroundings.)

Unusual fact about survival.
First, much like a squirrel during the summer, it
buries leftovers from its kills. The cold ground
keeps the meat fresh, and later in the winter, the
fox will come back and dig up the food. It also
is known to follow polar bears and eat whatever
the bear leaves behind. It can also use its incredible hearing to locate prey beneath the snow.

They live in burrows or tunnel into the snow during storms.

Bergman was famous all over the world for her beauty and talent. (answers may
vary) Because if you are beautiful or nice looking, more people will want to watch
the movie in which you are starring.

Sweden is a European nation that is in the region known as Scandinavia. It is a long but
rather thin country bordered by Finland and Norway. It is also connected to Denmark.

There are two sports that are played both in Sweden and the U.S. Draw a picture of

Ice hockey and football are the major sports.

Students should focus on how nature is incredibly important in Sweden. It is a major part of the country and the culture. About 50
percent of the country is covered in forests. It also has about 100,000 lakes and 24,000 islands. This could include people camping
and hiking.
