NEWSLETTER
Message from Mr Molver
!
Dear parents/carers,
I hope you've all had a wonderful week. Thank you to all of you who read last
week's newsletter and made the effort to talk with your children about toler!
ance. We've had no incidents this week and would love for that to continue!
Also, thank you to the parents who've taken note of the request to accompany
your children to the gates on the KS2 side. There are still a small number of parents allowing children to hop out of cars unescorted - please ensure that this stops happening as it's really not safe for
our little ones!
You'll all know by now that at KSA we focus on perseverance as a key life skill, and an important
character trait in being successful. Perseverance can be developed through a number of the activities we take part in at home and at school - laying in the orchestra, acting in a play, dancing with a
company, sitting with a cello/violin day after day to master a piece of music. It all develops perseverance. When you hear the life stories of famous scientists, inventors, artists, and visionaries, they
always have one trait in common: amazing perseverance. Most of them failed repeatedly before
they experienced success. However, an internal drive for success and a “never give up” attitude
defined their life and their work. You’ve heard many of these before.
Oprah Winfrey was fired from her first television job because she was “unfit for TV.”
Jerry Seinfeld was booed off the stage the first time he tried to deliver a comedy routine.
The manager of the Grand Old Oprey fired Elvis Presley after his first performance, suggesting he
“go back to driving a truck.”
Dr. Seuss was rejected many times before publishers accepted his first book.
Here are some suggestions as to how you might help your children to develop perseverance at
home:
Use language carefully to make the connection between hard work and success. I'm trying to work
on this at home with my own children! Instead of telling my daughter, “I loved your singing. You
are such a good singer!” we say, “I am so proud of your singing. All that time practising for your
play was really worth it.”
Instead of being quite general with praise, “You are so good/smart/special,” try to connect their
achievements to the hard work and effort they have put in. For example:
“You got an A on your test! I can see that
you really prepared and worked hard.”

The connection also works the other way around. “You didn’t do very well on your test. How much
time did you spend studying? What can you do to get a better grade next time?”
It’s important that students understand the power they have over their own success and failure.
(And that failure doesn’t have to be a permanent condition!)
I hope that you have a really lovely weekend with your children, and that you're able to either find
an activity or have a conversation with them that encourages perseverance!
Mr Molver.
PARENT SURVEY
Many thanks to all the parents who spent time completing the parent survey. The results were
overwhelming positive, however, as you know, at King Solomon Academy, we are always looking
at how we can improve things further! Your feedback is important to us, and over the coming
weeks and months, we will be working on improving some of the areas you have identified as
needing attention.

LITTLE MUSICIANS
Reported By: Leban Awale
This week, our Year 3’s were given their instruments and
they were allowed to take them home! The instruments
included; violins, violas and cellos. This tradition has
been happening for 4 years, and today is the 5th year!
Pupils were over the moon when they were given their
instruments, as it was not only a great responsibility, but
a privilege. Personally, when I received my violin-which
is now a viola- I took no notice of it. I left it at home, not
really caring about practicing. But when I was told I had
a music exam, well ladies and gentlemen, I kicked it into
overdrive and practiced like my life depended on it (it
sort of did.) That is why to this day I practice because
you never know when music-related things may pop up
in your life.

DEBATE MATE COMPETITION
Report by Mayss Zam Zam & Kadra Abdirahman
On Wednesday 18TH March 2015, six year 5 children were lucky enough to attend a debate competition at Dartmouth House English Speaking Union (ESU). The pupils who attended the trip were
Tyrell, Zara, Fahidah, Ananya, Aamirah A and Yassr. They had to shoe both sides of the argument.
Amazingly, they successfully won all four rounds .They came back with their heads held high and
large smiles on their faces. The last round was a ‘This house would stop funding for space exploration’. Ark Franklin was very strong on this last statement for debate. Well done to all the talented
children who went to the competition!
GOOD GAME GIRLS
Article by Fatima Aljaff and Fouzia Betteamer
On Tuesday 17th our Year 6 girls played in a match! It was an excellent match, although we
lost 1-2 to Paddington Green. The match was in the KSA’s MUGA and it started at 4:00pm.
Our representatives, Nora Khudamourad, Aida Kiar, Bjondina Koraci, Anushka Chaturvedi,
Lisa Newbold, Sarah Ezbakh, Amani Taibi, Sara Abdulkader, Shahd Orfy, Samiyah Amtot ,
Farrah Hassan and Manar Majed, played brilliantly and they had a really good match!
Our girls played another match on Wednesday 18th and we won 1-0 to Hampden Gurney in
match 1 and tied 0-0 in matches 2 out of 3! The 2nd and 3rd matches were against Christ
Church and St Edwards. It was an amazing match and everyone knows that when we are
together, we are one and when we are one, we will always win.
Sarah Ezbakh, one of the captains of the team, commented, “It was a memorable match.
Our team played well and at the end, it was a game that all the players could be proud of.”
Also, our boys had their match against Mill Bank Academy on Monday 16th at Paddington
Reck. The boys did really well, even though we lost 3-1.
Well done girls and boys!

THE SUPER SIX
RUSTLE RUSTLE...
"What is that noise?" wondered Sam. She looked at her watch, it was one minute until midnight.
Soon Big Foot would be here. She got her camera ready. Explorers have been wanting to catch
footage of Big Foot for years and years, but no one has been able to do it. Sam wanted to be the
first one. The rustling because louder. Then some big bangs could be heard. Big Foot was approaching. Sam was never the person to be scared, but all of a sudden, her spine gave a little shiver.
She swallowed and felt a lump in her throat. Although she was surrounded by lots of people, Sam
still felt alone. She slowing saw a gigantic shadow appear above her tent. The zip opened slowly. A
vast, hairy hand with sharp, pointy claws put his hand inside. The hand grabbed Sam's leg and
started pulling. "B B B BIG FOOOOOOTTT!" screamed Sam. Luna woke up, followed by Louisa
and then Lisa. A choir of little girls screamed filled the campsite. Jacob and Freddy woke up and
came rushing over to the girls tent. "W W Whats going on?" They asked. They also let of a manly
shreik and shouted, "B B B BIG FOOOTTT!" Big Foot's hands were so large that he could grab all
the childrens legs in one hand. He pulled and pulled. Luna started barking ferociously but it did not
make a difference. Big Foot did not stop. "That is it!" Sam shouted. She punched Big Foot so hardly on his face that he gave a large scream. "Wait a minute, did Big Foot just scream like a human?"
Jacob asked rhetorically. "Uh oh!" Big Foot said. He sounded awfully a lot like Uncle Ed. When
Big Foot turned around, Luna bit him hard and made him fall on the floor. He yelped. Lisa and
Louisa saw a zip behind his back. They opened it up and inside saw Uncle Ed. "Happy April Fools
day!" He said cheerfully. "It is October!" The six said altogether angrily. "Uh, sorry guys, it's just
that I wanted to have some fun and play a prank on you guys to see your reaction, but I am sorry!"
Uncle Ed said sadly. "Should we forgive him?" Sam asked. "Just this once because coming to think
of it, the practical joke was kind of funny!" They explained. They all laughed at the end and Luna
gave Uncle Ed a big, sloppy lick. In the afternoon, they all decided to go home. "Yes, no more
dirt!" thought Louisa. They all jumped into the seven seater hatchback and rode home whilst
singing ten green bottles!
