FROM THE BOARD CHAIR: Sandy Byrne Happy Cinco de Mayo!! Supreme Congratulations! From all reports, the Easter Egg Hunt was a ‘hopping’ success. Thank you, KTAC Easter Egg Hunt Production Team, for all the fun you provided for the children and their families. You have my admiration and some sympathy. You have placed the bar quite high for ….next year ….right?!? On another subject, the Board is continuing with the Strategic Planning Sessions – two to three hours tagged onto the end of abbreviated, monthly Board meetings. Lanny Ross, our volunteer facilitator, has been stalwart in his assistance, has carried us a fair distance, and still likes us, I think! We are identifying goals and assigning tasks and timelines to ourselves, and others (lucky you). One theme in the planning is provisioning ourselves for long term membership – who are they and what do they need. Another is totally new territory for us ….what should we look like as a 501[C]3, what do we offer to the community, and from where do we get support? It is difficult, it is new, and it is becoming exciting. Input from you, from the Champions Session last fall, and from the staff are valuable elements of this process. Please continue the ideas and the feedback. Sandy KTAC News KTAC Board Continues Strategic Planning Your Board of Directors at KTAC continues to work toward completing a strategic plan and have made significant progress. The effort has taken an extraordinary amount of time and effort, but the result will be worth it. Plus the Board has become closer and more cohesive. No telling when this process will be completed but rest assured, this group will not rest until it is. KTAC Staff Readies for Kids Day The biggest event geared towards children’s programming in Kitsap County is getting closer. KTAC will have a big presence again this year on June 6th at the fairgrounds. We’d love to have some members join us that day as ambassadors for our organization. If you like kids and enjoy helping us promote the Center, we’d love to have you join us. If interested please leave your name at the front desk or stop by the business office. Hours for this event are 10 am – 2:30 pm. Preparing for Summer We are gearing up for a big summer of junior activities both on the court and in the pool. We’ve seen an uptick in participation in our offerings so we’re hopeful for a big turnout this summer. Check our web site for the latest tennis camps, and swimming lesson programs. Look for a return to the all-day format as an option this summer. You as members can help us by informing your friends and neighbors about our terrific programs. Our staff and board would be most appreciative if you did. Calling All Grant Writers If you are a grant writer, an aspiring one or know someone who is, we could use your help. KTAC provides the community with important and valuable services and we know we can do more. Please contact Marsh if you can help in this area. Tennis News It has been another great month for our outstanding junior tennis players at KTAC. Tye Loan has been on a tear, and has risen to #8 in the Pacific Northwest Boys 16 singles division. He won the Seattle City Champs, crushing Brandon Wong in the final 6-0, 6-1. (Brandon, from Mercer Island was the 3rd seeded player in the draw). Not one to rest on his laurels, Tye went out and won the Mint Valley Spring Junior Championships in Longview, WA. Winning both the Boys 16 and 18 singles championships leaving both of the #1 seeded players in his wake. Wow what an impressive result. KTAC had other top juniors delivering great results. Sabrina Ross-Neergaard ripped the field in the Capital City Champs tournament defeating top seeded Lara Rakocevic of Portland in the championship match. Olivia Andersen reached the semi-finals in the Capital City Girls 12 Singles division and gave the top seeded Mia Ljubas of Seattle all she could handle. Congratulations to all our junior participants and to our outstanding staff of professionals. Stringing Special For a limited time we are offering a free replacement grip with any Solinco restringing. These strings are getting rave reviews around the Center as more and more top players convert to this hot product. Don’t wait. Member/Guest We had to postpone this event we have been planning due to lack of available courts. Hopefully we will be able to reschedule this event in the near future so please be thinking of lining up a partner.
