A treasured natural remedy for a number of health issues, licorice has only recently been discovered as a natural treatment for skin conditions like rosacea and psoriasis, as well as a natural skin lightening alternative. Seborrheic dermatitis Seborrheic dermatitis is a very common condition that causes redness, flaking and itching of the skin; it is most often seen on the scalp and face, but can also affect the ears, chest, back and other parts of the body. It can be thought of as an inflamed form of dandruff due to the presence of redness and itching in addition to flaking of the skin. It can be seen in babies (as a condition commonly known as cradle cap) and adults. While the exact cause of seborrheic dermatitis is unknown, it is thought to be due to a combination of factors, including a yeast that is normally present on the skin (known as Malassezia), genetics, and cold climates. Some people also note a flare of their dermatitis with the change of seasons. Although there is no cure for seborrheic dermatitis, effective treatment options to control the condition are available. These include antifungal shampoos and creams to reduce the yeast colonization in affected areas, and topical steroids or immunomodulator creams to calm down inflammation and itching.
