4-H Greetings
Congratulations to all of the exhibitors that competed in
the Houston, Austin and Rio Grande Valley Livestock
shows! Way to represent Kleberg-Kenedy County 4-H.
Spring is here and there are still many 4-H opportunities
available to members, parents, volunteers and leaders!
This is a great time to try a new project, learn something
new and make a few new friends! Continue attending
your club meetings to stay involved in upcoming 4-H
events.

4-H County Council Meeting:
County Council Meeting will be May 4th @6:30 p.m. at the
County Extension Office. All Delegates are asked to attend.
Mangers will please help us remind the 2 club representatives. We look forward to seeing you!
4-H Executive Council Meeting:
Council Officers will meet on Monday, April 27th after the
Committee Meetings at the Extension Office to set the
agenda for the May 4-H Council Meeting.
4-H Council Committee Meetings:
If you were appointed to a committee at the last County Council meeting please attend your
respective committee meeting. The following committee meetings are scheduled for
Monday, April 27th at the Extension Office.
*By-law Committee– 6:00 p.m.
*Budget Committee– 6:30 p.m.

KKJLS Check Requirements:
If you made the Auction Sale, you will need to complete THANK YOU letters and PROJECT
RECORD forms prior to receiving your livestock show check. Checks are scheduled to be
available on April 23rd.
Project Record Forms and 2015 KKJLS Check Requirements/Sale Packet can be downloaded
from our county website (http://kleberg.agrilife.org) under 4-H Publications.
School Eligibility:
Kleberg-Kenedy County AgriLife Extension Service complies with the law set forth by legislature
regarding eligibility and school absences. Members competing or simply participating in a 4-H
event (food show, fashion show, livestock show, etc.) must be certified as eligible to participate by
their respective schools. School officials will be provided with a list of students entered in competitive and/or non-competitive 4-H events. Should a student be ineligible due to their respective School
District’s Policy (grades, absenteeism, discipline, etc.), school officials will be notified in writing of
their ineligibility status by our office.

Judging Team GOOD LUCK at the District 12 4-H Livestock
Judging Contest on April 25th in Fredericksburg. We hope

your knowledge of livestock!
We also want to send GOOD LUCK wishes to the 4-H’ers advancing to District 12 4-H Roundup on May 2nd in Kingsville.

Horse Club News:
The Wild Horse Desert Club is will be hosting a Ride-A-Thon to
benefit the Wounded Warrior Project on April 25th from 9:AM-1:PM
at the Tinsley’s Arena. Members of the club are seeking either flat
donations (any $ amount) or sponsorships for their time riding from
15 minutes to 4 hours. If you would like to help us out with donations for the Wounded Warrior Project, or bring a horse and ride
for donations, please contact Angela Bull at 361-443-5262. We
would also like to invite wounded warriors to lunch during the Ride
-A-Thon. If you know of a soldier who was injured while serving in
Iraq or Afghanistan, please contact Angela Bull.
Texas 4-H Horse Validation:
2015 TEXAS 4-H HORSE VALIDATION:
March 1, 2015 – April 15, 2015
$10.00/Horse
April 16, 2015-May 1, 2015
$20.00/Horse
All horses MUST be validated or revalidated with payment each
year,
to be eligible to show at District and State 4-Horse Shows.

4-H Gardening Project:
Start planning your spring garden. Families should make preparations on establishing their garden. Award Vegetable Categories will include: tomato, lettuce, bell pepper, cucumber,
squash, zucchini, carrot, bean, radish, and okra. Special Award
categories will include: best insect collection, best garden records, ugliest garden insect, best poster design of garden, and
best overall garden. Please call and let us know if you will be
participating. Garden show will be in mid-May.

4-H Leadership Lab & Election Convention:
Interested in learning about leadership development, meeting new friends, and
having lots of FUN? District 12 4-H Leadership Lab is an excellent opportunity for
youth ages 12 years old and up to learn new and different activities, interact with
youth of the same age, meet new members from other communities and have plenty
of fun. Lab is scheduled for June 23-26th in Uvalde. Approximate cost: $185/
participant. County Council will contribute money to participants attending to help
offset the cost. If interested, please call and information will be sent to you as soon
as it arrives. District 12 4-H Election Convention is set for Friday, June 26th in
Uvalde. See May Newsletter for more information.
Texas 4-H Roundup:
Attention Intermediate and Senior 4-H’ers:
This year the 2015 State 4-H Roundup will be offering several intermediate and senior
level invitational contests. This means you do not have to qualify at a county or district
contest to attend Roundup in College Station June 9-12, 2015. The invitational contests
include:
-Texas 4-H Photography Judging Contest
-Texas Ag Product ID Contest
-Healthy Lifestyles Contest
-Invitational Livestock Judging Contest
-Invitational Poultry Judging Contest
The 2015 Texas 4-H Roundup Guide can be found at (http://texas4-h.tamu.edu/
roundup). Please let me know via email ([email protected]) or by calling the
Extension Office (595-8566) if you are interested in being a part of any of these teams
so we can start practicing!
4-H Recordbook:
Start working on your 4-H Recordbooks early!!! A workshop will be
scheduled in May. These are different from the Project Record Forms
required for KKJLS checks distribution. This is a great project for the
kids to share what they have accomplished throughout the year and
qualifies 4-H’ers for a special County Awards Banquet in August which
highlights outstanding 4-H members. Contact the Extension Office if
you would like more information on 4-H Recordbooks.
