Angel Funding, Joins Techstars Boston’s Latest Batch
Named by The Times as a
one-
of-
a-kind 3D printing platform, Kwambio raised $650,000
and
is gearing up to launch a 3D printing marketplace during the
Techstars Boston’s
summer session.
BOSTON - June 10, 2015 - Kwambio Inc., a company who recently presented their 3D
printing marketplace and 3D printer UNIQUE One at the New York 3D Printshow, has a new
take on how to make 3D printing
more accessible to all kinds of different people - and now
it has a round of angel funding and entries into top startup incubator Techstars Boston, to
help start the journey.
The company has closed a $650,000 round of funding from Techstars
Boston and additional angels.
As for what makes Kwambio unique? Instead of selling 3D models, the company employs a
pay-per-print revenue model and focuses on practical design products with a wide range of
customization options. The platform is designed to be a creative community. Users can like
and share products created by others, and also follow their favorite designers to discover
new and unique products.
On Kwambio, users begin by choosing a product from one of four main categories (Fashion,
Home Decor, Gadgets and Art), which they can then customize and personalize within a few
clicks of a button. Just hit the “print” button to receive the product. All products are verified
and ready for customization, designs are streamed directly to 3D printers. Designers don’t
sell files but make money on each customization of their original designs. Users of Kwambio
can print products with any other 3D printer they might own and also use a print on
demand service, offered by Kwambio partners.
Later this year Kwambio should start mass production of the first-ever custom-design 3D
printer with a 3D interface at a very competitive price, hopefully as low as $800.
Vlad Usov, CEO and co-founder at Kwambio, stressed that Kwambio is turning its focus to
international markets, particularly in the US and Europe. It aims to maintain a presence in
Boston in the long term, in accordance with its wider market goals.
“We believe that the Techstars accelerator program will take Kwambio to the next level”,
said Dmitriy Krivoshey, Kwambio’s co-founder and CTO.
