The 4th of July parade is the perfect excuse to polish it up and take it out. If you have an unusual car or a convertible, please feel free to decorate it and bring it out. Yes, that includes the shiny Porsche in the garage that you don’t let anyone touch! This is the perfect opportunity to show it off ! Uncle Sam & Lady Liberty If you have an Uncle Sam or Lady Liberty costume, we need you! If you do not want to walk, we can put you in the back of a convertible. Your ideas Do you have ideas for other entries in the parade? Please feel free to get creative and let us know. One year, one group brought out “The Lacamas Monster,” a cross between Big Foot and the Lochness Monster. It was simply a guy wrapped from head to toe in green hula skirts riding If you plan to come out to see the parade, please position yourself between the east end of Lacamas Drive and the entrance to the picnic area on Lacamas Drive. It is best to call when you first move in to get useful information and materials, plus a welcome gift. Local area information is also available on the City of Camas website, www.cityofcamas.us. Contact Cindi Marrinan at 833.2209 or email [email protected] to obtain your boat launch gate card and bathroom key. Contact Rob Bernardi at 834.4361 to get a Boat Trailer Parking Sticker which is required for parking in the boat launch area. To reserve the common area for private parties, contact Catherine Arnold, 834.1710 or email [email protected]. ATTENTION! LACAMAS SHORES BOATERS On hot summer days when many residents want to use the boat launch and park their vehicles down below, trailers that do not have an LS sticker, will be booted and the owner will be fined. Also, on busy days, boaters would appreciate nonboating residents park their cars on Lacamas Drive as space is severely limited. You are welcome to drop off anyone that cannot walk down the boat access road...we just ask that you then drive back and park on the public street. Using the Boat Launch: Summer is almost here! As a reminder, if you own a boat and use the Lacamas Shores boat launch, and want to park your vehicle by the boat launch, you are required to obtain a free LS boat trailer sticker from Rob Bernardi (834.4361). The purpose of these stickers is to ensure that only residents park by the boat launch. There are only seven parking spaces and residents are given the convenience of parking close to the dock. All guests, whether they have brought their own boats or are visiting in cars, are not allowed to park by the boat launch. Store Boats Out of Sight According to CC&R 5.19, Vehicle Parking, boats and boat trailers are not to be parked in front of the setback line of any lot, or in a location visible from any street for a period more than 48 hours. The streets in Lacamas Shores belong to the City of Camas. Don’t Get Booted! You are more than welcome to bring a guest, and they may launch their boat from our dock. However, you must be out on the boat with that guest if you are using the LS boat launch. After guests have launched their boat, they must drive back up the hill to Lacamas Drive and park their vehicle and trailer on the street. Camas has a similar time period for allowing parking on the street. That means boats, trailers, RVs, etc., may not be parked (stored) in driveways or on the street. Please use your boat responsibly and safely this summer and respect other boaters. Happy Boating! FLAG DAY JUNE 14, 2015 Care and handling of the American flag is steeped in tradition and respect. There is a right way and a wrong way to display the flag. This is called Flag Etiquette. The American flag should be held in the highest of regards. It represents our nation and the many people who gave their lives for our country and our flag. Flag Rules and Regulations HOW TO HANDLE UNWANTED SOLICITORS Summer is often the time when unwanted solicitors are knocking at your door. Some even misrepresent themselves by saying they live in the neighborhood or they give you a heartbreak story. It is hard to know if you should believe them. Here is a suggestion on how to handle this uncomfortable situation. there are solicitors in the neighborhood without a license. The police can be reached M-F 8:00-5:00 at 834.4151, after hours call 9-1-1 to be put in touch with the police. Be prepared to describe the person and to tell the police the direction they were heading after your house. The police will warn them not to solicit in the neighborhood until they get a license. If they try again and the police catch them, they will be issued an infraction. None of us like getting unwanted solicitors at our door. This small step may help us all control the amount of unwanted solicitors coming through our neighborhood. Solicitors are required to obtain a City of Camas Solicitior’s License. To obtain the license, they have to apply at City Hall and have a background check done. If you do not know the person at the door, ask to see their solicitor’s license. If they are unable to present one to you, kindly say you are not interested and shut the door. Then call the police to notify them that 3 JOIN YOUR LACAMAS SHORES NEIGHBORS ON SATURDAY, JULY 4TH! IT’LL BE A BLAST! Mark your Calendar! What an excellent opportunity to come together as a neighborhood, see friends, make new, and celebrate our country’s independence. In days past, good neighbor relations were the staple of every strong community. Being able to share life's experiences, both good and bad, with those who live so close to us was once considered one of life's greatest blessings. These days it is the exception rather than the rule to take the time to create strong relationships with the people we share our community with...and we are each the poorer because of it. Each one of us has a story to tell, a hand to lend, a laugh to share, and friendship to give. What keeps us from extending so much of ourselves to the families that live around our own may be those same things that prevent us from experiencing many of the great blessings of our parents or of our youth: A changing world that focuses more on the individual than the ANNUAL GARAGE SALE SATURDAY, JUNE 6, 2015 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM Spring is here and so is garage sale fever! The Lacamas Shores annual garage sale will be held on Saturday, June 6. This is the only sanctioned garage sale in our neighborhood and advertising plus word or mouth has resulted in large crowds each year. For those who haven’t witnessed this annual event, be prepared for a lot of car and pedestrian traffic. To participate, all you need to do is gather up your “stuff ” and open your garage door at 8:00 AM. They will be waiting for you. You may wish to invite a neighbor for a joint sale. The more help you have the easier it is to conduct a sale. You will also attract more buyers if you have more selection AND, it’s more fun! A group sale could include a tag on items stating: Owner, Sale Price, Sold For to make divying up the profits easier. Preview Sale Friday Evening Lacamas Shores typically has a preview sale for homeowners on Friday evening starting at 5:00 PM. This has proved to be a popular event for many neighbors who will be busy on Saturday, and it gives them a first shot at the good stuff. You may choose to participate in both or just the Saturday sale. If you choose to participate in the Friday evening sale, let your neighbors know by posting on the BackFence. 7 family and the need to remain isolated in order to feel "safe and secure." Someone once said, "If you always do the things you did, you'll always get the things you got." If we want to grow as a community then we have to risk breaking free from the bonds of isolation that are so easily created by and for us. We must reach out to our neighbors and let them know that they matter and that we care. If we do that, even in the most seemingly insignificant of ways - like a wave as we pass on the street - then we are moving toward a better community and a better way to live. Just because our culture has pushed us away from ourselves doesn't mean it is right, it just means that we have to work that much harder in order to reconnect with one another and create a better environment in which to live.
