We have had a very successful year because of the efforts of our dynamic staff and students, who are supported by our superb parents and community. Our students have individually and collaboratively accomplished noteworthy academic, social and emotional goals. To ensure these achievements continue during the fourth quarter, please make certain to monitor your child’s progress through School Fusion during the remainder of the year. We know that our students are patiently (or not) waiting for the arrival of summer and we want to help keep them centered for the rest of the academic year. 2014 2017 Because this is the last newsletter of the year, I want to take this moment to extend my appreciation to our 8th grade class. During my first year at LRMS, they have been superb leaders and role models for our 6th and 7th grade students, and I am proud of each of them. They have worked hard and have overcome challenges over the past three years and I am confident that they are prepared to begin their high school journey. As we wave farewell to our 8th grade class, please know that they will always be part of the LRMS Pack! Music Just as we prepare our 8th grade students (and parents!) for the transition to high school, we have been preparing our rising 6th grade students by visiting our feeder elementary schools with the purpose of providing a smooth transition to middle school. The rising sixth graders just visited LRMS and were full of excitement and energy. They had an opportunity to tour the building and to experience a glimpse of what LRMS has to offer them! We are excited to see them walk through our doors and become part the “pack”! Also, we acknowledge that our seventh graders will be walking into new leadership roles very soon. Clubs During the months of May and June, students will be taking their Standards of Learning (SOL) tests which can be stressful. Our teachers are working hard to support their students learning, as well as, providing strategies to use during test taking. Please make sure that your children get plenty of sleep and eat a healthy breakfast! Also, please remind them to take advantage of the late busses offered on Tuesday and Thursday to support a strong finish to the end of the year. Sports I would like to thank all of you for your support during my first year as principal at this amazing school. Your kindness and patience during this time of transition was greatly appreciated by me. I am fortunate to work with such a great staff, students, and community. This will be a year I will never forget! In collaboration, Yearbook Info World Languages 11 Christie D. Taylor Learning in a “Paw”sitive Environment! The Book Fair was held April 13-17. We appreciate all of your hard work, organization, and flexibility helping to make Lake Ridge Middle School Library an excellent resource for students and staff! June 4th – All Library Books & Materials Due Please note that all books and library materials that have been checked out to any LRMS student should be returned to the Library by the end of the day on Thursday, June 4, 2015. Parents, if your child has an overdue library book, please make every effort to return it. If it cannot be found, there are three options. The book can be paid for by cash or check, the book can be replaced with another of the same title, or the student can “work off” the cost of the book after school in the library. This must be resolved before the last day of school. Please note that an overdue issue will stay on the student’s record through their time at all Prince William County Schools until it is resolved. Don’t allow your student to start a new school year with a fine on their library account. These laws also require the School Division to: • Refer for possible evaluation any student of school age living in the School Division who a school staff member suspects may be disabled. • Provide appropriate educational and school‐related opportunities to students with disabilities in an inclusive setting to the maximum extent appropriate. • Provide notice of the availability of services and types and location of services to nearby private schools, pediatricians, and the Health Department. • Provide parents/guardians of students with disabilities with notice of their rights annually, and prior to their student’s evaluation and placement, or any significant change in their student’s placement. • Develop and implement procedural safeguards with respect to actions regarding the identification, evaluation, and placement of students with disabilities. • Provide written notice of the School Division’s procedural safeguards to parents or guardians. If you suspect that your student may have a disability affecting your student’s development or academic performance, or may have a mental or physical impairment that substantially limits a major life activity, please contact the Director of Special Education at 703.791.7287 for further information.
