What’s in Selsun suspension?
The name of your treatment is Selsun
suspension, it contains selenium sulphide
2.5% w/v as the active ingredient. Other
ingredients are: bentonite, titanium dioxide,
citric acid, sodium acid phosphate, glyceryl
monoricinoleate S, monoethanolamine
lauryl sulphate, Empigen BB, perfume,
sodium chloride and purified water.

It is a thick, beige suspension available
in plastic bottles containing 50ml, 100ml
or 150ml.

FOR DANDRUFF
What is Selsun suspension?
It is a medicated shampoo used to treat
dandruff and seborrhoea dermatitis
(a greasy, crusting, itching scalp caused
by excess oil). It works against dandruff in
two ways; by reducing greasiness of the
scalp and by slowing down growth of the
layer of skin cells on the scalp that cause
dandruff.
Please read this leaflet carefully before
you use Selsun suspension.

Before using Selsun suspension
Do not use this product if:
● you are allergic
to any of the ingredients
● you are pregnant
● you are breastfeeding your baby
Should be applied only to the scalp and
must not be swallowed.
You must avoid getting in your eyes or
letting it come into contact with broken or
inflamed areas.

Rinse thoroughly from the hair before
dyeing, tinting or perming. It should not
be used for two days before or after any
of these hair treatments. Take out hairgrips and remove jewellery before use
and avoid contact with metal surfaces.
Do not let Selsun suspension come into
contact with broken skin or inflamed areas
and try not to get it in your eyes. If it does,
wash immediately with lots of cold water.
If accidentally swallowed, seek medical
advice immediately. Swallowing Selsun
suspension can cause nausea and vomiting.
Do not use to treat children under
5 years old.
Using Selsun suspension
Adults, (including elderly) and children over
5 years old:
It should be used twice a week for the first
two weeks and then once a week for the
next two weeks. After this first course of
treatment, it should not be used more
often than is needed to control your scalp
condition.
Shake bottle well, before using. Wet the hair
and then massage enough onto your scalp to
form a lather. Leave for three minutes.
Rinse thoroughly and repeat.
What problems can Selsun suspension
cause?
It can rarely cause problems such as itching
and redness of the scalp. If this occurs, stop
using it.
Increased hair loss may occur when
treating any scalp condition. Dryness or
greasiness of the hair or scalp may increase
after use.
Discoloration of the hair may occur when
using. This can be avoided or minimised by
thorough rinsing of the hair after treatment.
Tell your doctor or pharmacist if you notice
any other side effects not mentioned above.

How should Selsun suspension be
stored?
Do not use after its ‘use by’ (exp) date,
which is printed on the bottle, or if it shows
signs of deterioration. If the bottle is out of
date, return it to your pharmacist and if
necessary, get a new prescription from
your doctor.

Keep your bottle in a safe place, where
children cannot see or reach it. If they drink
Selsun suspension, it could harm them.
Do not store above 25°C.
