Surface radiation variables useful in a wide range of applications related to land surface processes, including (agro-)meteorology, hydrology and also environmental surveys and climate studies. The water cycle plays a major role in land-atmosphere exchanges. These variables are useful for applications such as ecosystem health, crop and forest productivity, regional and global climate impact analysis. • Vegetation Properties (LAI, FAPAR, FCover) • Vegetation Indices (NDVI, VCI, VPI) • Dry Matter Productivity • Burnt Areas • Top Of Canopy Reflectances (BRDF corrected) • Surface Albedo (White and Black sky) • Land Surface Temperature • Soil Water Index • Area of Water Bodies Global Land Service for a Wide Range of Applications The Copernicus European Earth Observation and Monitoring program has entered its fully operational phase following the adoption of the Copernicus regulation in 2014. The Copernicus Global Land Service is the component of the Copernicus Land service which ensures a global systematic monitoring of the Earth’s land surface. It provides bio-geophysical variables in near real time describing the state of vegetation, the energy budget and the water cycle, including their changes and disturbances, derived from the imagery of low and medium resolution satellite sensors. An operational fully fledged Global Land Service is required to answer the needs of EU Policies in the following areas: - Agriculture & food security - Land degradation & desertification - Forest & water resources management - Biodiversity - Rural development - Climate change The Global Land Service variables are produced in a timely manner, complemented by the constitution of historical archives while specific attention is given on the consistency of the time-series. The products are provided according to the free and open data policy of Copernicus through a user friendly data portal at http://land.copernicus.eu/global/access.
