Dr. Richie is Professor of Criminal Justice and Gender and
Women’s Studies at the University of Illinois, Chicago. Her
research and scholarship explore the relationship between
violence against women in low-income African American
communities, recidivism, and public policy and social factors regarding the incarceration rates of women. She is the
author of the book, Compelled to Crime: The Gender Entrapment of Black Battered Women, as well as numerous articles.
