Flanked by corporate and
city officials, MnDOT and
Chambers of Commerce,
Congressman Rick Nolan
discussed the Essential Air
Service (EAS) Program
Tuesday, April 7 at Range
Regional Airport. The
United States Department
of Transportation provides
a subsidy directly to the
airline to provide service
into smaller communities.
Businesses say that air
service like that at Range
Regional is essential to
the community. Nearly 30
people personally heard the
discussion.
Shaun Germolus, Range
Regional Airport’s executive director, hosted
the news conference. He’s
in favor of EAS, noting
that without the federal
program, airline service to
rural markets would be extremely difficult to retain.
Nolan’s stop in Hibbing prompted discussion
among Chamber Board
Members. Besides efforts
to pay for Range Regional
Airport’s infrastructure
improvements, support is
needed for Essential Air
Service. On April 15, the
Chamber Board passed
an Essential Air Service
Resolution. Copies were
sent to the United States
Congressional delegation,
and the Minnesota Chamber of Commerce.

1935, with the building of the main lodge the camp hosts children ages 4 to 17. Activities include canoeing, swimming, volleyball, archery and a climbing wall.
