JOIN THE FUN—THE PLACE TO BE, LCC!
Introducing The NEW Loot Night!
"King of Clubs"
Every Friday at 6:30 pm
We are starting a new "loot drawing" called King of
Clubs! Members may purchase tickets for $5.00
each. If your ticket is drawn, you may choose one
card from the wall. If you pick the King of Clubs you
win 50% of the pot in cash! The other 50% goes to
the club to put back toward member events and capital. If the King of Clubs is not drawn, the card drawn is
removed and the jackpot rolls over and ticket sales
from that night are added to the next week's jackpot. The jackpot will continue to grow until the King of
Clubs is drawn. If the King of Clubs is drawn, sales
from that night are the new jackpot. The starting pot is
$1,000.00!
Ticket sales are cash only.

MAKING A SPLASH — LCC POOL
CASEY HAMILTON / POOL MANAGER
Moving forward!! The pool has been sand blasted. The expansion joints have
been grinded down with diamonds and filled with a top-of-the-line Polysulfide (rubber). There will be three coats of paint; Rheanne and I are currently
applying the first. It’s looking like this complete overhaul to our pool is winding down. In this process we were able to discover four major leaks and several minor leaks. Preventing the future loss of water and chemical waste.
Knowing the cost and time of a project like this I did my absolute best
to be involved at every step to insure no detail was missed. This overhaul
added 10 years of life to our pool. I am very pleased. I appreciate everyone’s
patience with all the trucks, equipment and noise that the work site has
brought.
The summer is fast approaching and as parents we are probably all
making preparations for the extra hours of “kid time”. I encourage everyone
to take full advantage of our extended pool hours. I also would like to invite/
challenge our parents to attend Lap time in the mornings and early evenings.
Also anyone interested in participating with our daily Physical Training in
and out of the water, would be more than welcome.
Our swim lessons are for all ages. They are designed to prepare our children for a safe and fun experience in all bodies of water. Our instructors are
LCC lifeguards that train with the Lawrence AquaHawks. They specialize in
three levels of training. For a list of schedules and signup information, call or
stop by and ask for Casey.
Warm Regards,
Casey Neal Hamilton

The LCC Board of Directors is pleased to
announce we have selected Commerce Bank
as our new financial partner. The re-financing
of our debt was a process undertaken by the Finance Committee chaired by Cathy Shenoy
along with committee members Mark Buhler,
Ted Haggart, Charles Derby, and Mike Roark.
The financial terms offered by our new partner are very attractive and allowed the Club to
lock in a very competitive interest rate for the
next seven years that will allow our management staff to focus on making LCC the premier
member owned country club in Lawrence.
Please join us in thanking the members of
the Finance Committee for their hard work in
assisting the Board in making this very important decision.

RHEANNE ETKEN / GENERAL MANAGER
May is in full bloom at LCC! We have a new “all day” menu out, which will be our summer menu. Also, the dining hours will be changing
starting May 20th. The official pool opening date is May 20th as well. We are almost finished with the paint, and will start filling the first
week in May. If the weather is nice before the 20th, we will open it up! Casey has been working hard to get it all perfect and beautiful for
the pool season! Don’t forget to join us for the array of golf activities we have going on; we would love to have you! Always refer to our
website calendar for the most recent schedule of upcoming events and restaurant specials. Also new this month is the “King of Clubs”! It’s
a twist on the loot night drawing. We will still do it every Friday at 6:30 pm. Come check it out! Of course coming up also are the season
opener and Memorial Day festivities. There are so many things to do at LCC for anybody! I would like to thank the Board and the Finance
Committee for all of their hard work on the loan refinance. It is an honor to be a part of this history at LCC, and I look forward to the future of the club. Also, thank you to the House Committee for their work on the clubhouse building master plan. What a great resource we
have now to build on the future. As always, please contact me anytime at [email protected] or my cell 785-813-5128. See
you at the club!

Now we are really into golf season! There are lots of events
and activities going on this month. Remember to look at the
golf calendar online at www.lawrencecountryclub.com to
keep up to date!
May 2nd is our Season Opener. This is a huge party preceded
by a golf tournament. The tournament will kick off at 1:30.
The format is four person teams of any combination, i.e.
women, men, seniors, juniors. Each person will get their full
handicap and be assigned a number. After the hole you will
go to the next tee box, open the envelope and it will tell you
which person’s score to count. This is a fun event for all
abilities. The cost is $10/person. Make up your own teams
or let the Golf Shop help you find a team. Sign up by May 1st
in the Golf Shop.
May 16th we are having a Flag Day Tournament. Each person
adds their handicap to par. Once they reach that number the
player puts the flag in the ground. The person to get the furthest wins! Make your own tee times and groups. You must
tee off before 2:00p.m. The cost is $10/person.
The Memorial Day Couples event will kick off at 1:00. The
format is a waltz. This means that on the par 3’s you count 3
balls, on the par 4’s you count 2 balls, and on the par 5’s you
count 1 ball. Make your own foursomes or let us help you
find a group!
Men’s Guest Day is May 27th. Each member may bring one
guest for cart fee only. The shotgun start will be at 1:00p.m.
We are starting to get busy as the golf season progresses.
Please, please call and make tee times. This way we can
make sure you get on the course when you want and have
everything ready when you arrive. It’s very important that
we know who is on the course and where golfers are on the
course.
I have had some concerns recently about member’s handicaps, recording scores, recording ALL scores, etc. If you have
questions about handicaps I’m happy to answer them. A
huge part of golf is honesty and integrity. You must record
every score. You must record the correct score. On the suggestion of the KGA I am forming a handicap committee to
deal with some of these issues. If you have a particular concern, please contact me. I appreciate everyone’s help on this
matter.

BILL IRVING / GOLF COURSE SUPERINTENDENT
With May upon us and more rounds being played every day, it is time
for our annual reminder of course care and etiquette on the golf course.
Filling divots
Do – Fill divot holes with the material provided by the maintenance
staff. If there is soil still attached to the divot, it may be replaced
but filling with sand is preferred.
Don’t – Overfill the hole, which results in a sand mound that can
dull or damage the mowing units.
Ball marks
Do – Restore surface smoothness by gently pushing from the sides
and, in some cases, gently lifting the compressed area.
Don’t – Aggressively twist (like that so often used by pros on national television), which does more harm than good.
Bunkers
Do – Push sand up the bunker face and enter and exit from the low
side of the bunker.
Don’t – Climb out of the high side of the bunker, which causes
damage to liners and grass faces.
Carts
Do – Avoid wet areas, stay off green and tee banks, and follow all
directional signs, ropes, and lines.
Don’t – Pull half off the path, as it is unnecessary and causes damage to high visibility areas.
Ropes
Do – Pay attention to ropes and the areas they are intended to protect.
Don’t – Don’t step on the rope – step over it.
The Small Things Make a Big Difference
There are many other small things golfers can do to help their
course play and look better, and in the process free up the maintenance staff for more essential work.
Picking up broken tees helps prevent damage to costly mower
reels.
Not overfilling trash containers prevents trash from blowing
across the course.
Replacing a sign or rope stake that has been knocked down
keeps the course looking neat and helps prevent damage.
If a leak is spotted, let a maintenance staff worker know about it
so it can be fixed before turf damage occurs from traffic
through the area.
Lose the herd mentality when driving your cart – avoid following
the same path of the carts before you.
Avoid taking divots on your practice swings.
Chip to the chipping green – not the practice putting green.
When practicing putting, avoid standing in one place for extended periods – doing so can cause damage to the green.
Put bunker rakes where the superintendent has directed them to
be placed.

Golf Course Superintendent
