Woodworking Planes
A wooden plane, from which metal planes were copied, remains the
ultimate in the plane maker’s art. A light weight wood plane is a delight
to handle and use. With the Primus adjustment, it is a precision tool,
capable of cutting so smoothly that work is near ready for finishing,
cutting so delicately that shavings can only be measured with a
micrometer. To select planes wisely, and to use them skillfully, you
should understand the design objectives and capabilities. These are
discussed in E.C. Emmerich’s “Complete Book of Woodworking Tools,”
available to download at www.ecetools.com.au
