Woodworking Tools Woodworking Planes A wooden plane, from which metal planes were copied, remains the ultimate in the plane maker’s art. A light weight wood plane is a delight to handle and use. With the Primus adjustment, it is a precision tool, capable of cutting so smoothly that work is near ready for finishing, cutting so delicately that shavings can only be measured with a micrometer. To select planes wisely, and to use them skillfully, you should understand the design objectives and capabilities. These are discussed in E.C. Emmerich’s “Complete Book of Woodworking Tools,” available to download at www.ecetools.com.au 711 701 P 48 S Primus imProved smooth Plane Primus try Plane moving fillister Plane • Adjustable depth control - anti-backlash precision adjustment of cutting iron* • Lignum vitae sole • Adjustable mouth • Adjustable depth control - anti-backlash precision adjustment of cutting iron* • Lignum vitae sole • Suitable for long cuts, such as doors • Hornbeam sole • Adjustable fence, depth stop & knife spur • Spur is replaceable • Suited for rabbeting with or against grain *Refer to page 97 for a diagram of the Primus plane cross section cat.-no. 711 iron width (mm) blade angle length (mm) 48 50° 225 *Refer to page 97 for a diagram of the Primus plane cross section cat.-no. 701 P iron width (mm) blade angle length (mm) 60 45° 600 Side view cat.-no. 649 P 703 P iron width (mm) blade angle length (mm) 0 -33 45° 240 48 S adJustable block Plane Primus Jack Plane 20 S • Pocket sized • Lignum vitae sole • Adjustable depth control • Adjustable depth control - anti-backlash precision adjustment of cutting iron* • Designed for general use • Lignum vitae sole • Common pitch blade router Plane • 3 blades • Beech wood router • Heavy gauge blade Hang Display *Refer to page 97 for a diagram of the Primus plane cross section cat.-no. 703 P iron width (mm) blade angle length (mm) 48 45° 240 cat.-no. 649 P iron width (mm) blade angle length (mm) 39 50° 150 23 S 710 P dovetail / skewed moving fillister Plane Primus rabbet Plane • Adjustable fence and knife spur • Suited for moulding sloped surfaces & panel raising • Can be used to cut sliding dovetails • Spur is replaceable • Adjustable depth control - anti-backlash precision adjustment of cutting iron* • Lignum vitae sole 710 P iron width (mm) blade angle length (mm) 20 S 10, 15, 20 25° 240 iron width (mm) blade angle length (mm) 33 45° 240 106 S scrub Plane • Cut with or diagonally to the grain • Convex iron fixed with wedge • Hornbeam sole *Refer to page 97 for a diagram of the Primus plane cross section cat.-no. cat.-no. iron width (mm) blade angle length (mm) 30 50° 280 Side view cat.-no. 23 S iron width (mm) blade angle length (mm) 0 -33 45° 240 cat.-no. 106 S 95 Made in Germany - Since 1852 297 50 edge trimmer sPokeshave low angle block Plane • Square cut straight or curved edges • Chamfer straight edges • Used to trim overhanging waste on plastic laminates or wood veneer • Convex face & iron • Adjustable for end grain cat.-no. iron width (mm) description 297.00 90 x 50 x 55 edge trimmer 297.01 90 x 50 x 55 replacement blade 295 cat.-no. iron width (mm) blade angle length (mm) 52 45° 250 50 51 cat.-no. 60 iron width (mm) blade angle length (mm) 41 20° 175 80 veneer cutter sPokeshave cabinet scraPer with raised handles • 2 mm industrial grade saw blade • Trim excess overhang flush using fence • Cut veneers up to 1 mm thick into any size strips using a straight edge guide • Straight iron • For finishing instead of using sandpaper cat.-no. iron width (mm) description 295.00 150 x 100 veneer cutter 295.01 150 x 100 replacement blade 113 cat.-no. iron width (mm) blade angle length (mm) 52 45° 250 51 55 cat.-no. 80 iron width (mm) blade angle length (mm) 70 70° 280 75 comPass / circular Plane sPokeshave bullnose Plane • Adjustable sole flexes to smooth either convex or concave surfaces. • Concave face & iron • Designed for use in confined spaces and to smooth into a corner cat.-no. 113 96 60 iron width (mm) blade angle length (mm) 44 55° 260 cat.-no. 55 iron width (mm) blade angle length (mm) 52 45° 250 cat.-no. 75 iron width (mm) blade angle length (mm) 27 40° 100 409 411 217 Precision trY square Precision sliding bevel marking gauge • Without mitre on handle • Laser metric markings • Rosewood handle • Blue steel blade • Heavy brass washers • Handle and blade works to any angle up to 180° • Blue steel blade • Hornbeam • 2 individually adjustable posts • Easy to read metric scales NOTE: The (217 K) circular fence is used to mark against curved surfaces. 217 P 217 K Hang Display Hang Display cat.-no. size (mm) 409.150 150 cat.-no. 409.250 250 411 410 size (mm) description size (mm) 217 P 0-150 lignum vitae face 300 217 K 0-150 circular fence 412 cat.-no. 207.30 Precision trY square Precision mitre square cam clamP • Mitre on handle • Laser metric markings • Rosewood handle • Brass edging and rivets • Blue steel blade • Rosewood handle • Brass edging and rivets • Blue steel blade • For glueing and clamping on delicate surfaces • Steel rail with tough hornbeam arms & cork protection pads Hang Display cat.-no. 410 size (mm) 250 Hang Display cat.-no. 412 size (mm) cat.-no. size (mm) 300 207.30 300 302 Cross section of an Primus Plane REgULAToR ADjUSTing SCREW sPring miter clamP set • For glueing and clamping on different miter joints • Suitable for picture frames and furniture repairs TEnSion SCREW nUT cat.-no.
