Please write your check and pop it into the mail so that our organization can continue all of the splendid and worthwhile projects that we are doing and planning. Your dues make them possible. Our valiant treasurer, Cathy Fazzolari, awaits your payment. The Cuban Table -- a smashing success Those who attended “The Cuban Table” program at Dame Suzi O’Rourke’s Cooking By the Book had great things to say about it. Now that the United States and Cuba are renewing their relationship, this timely program gave insights into the reality of Cuban culture and cuisine. There was a fascinating discussion of what Cuba is like after decades of isolation from the western world, and the food was excellent. As an extra perk, everyone received a copy of speaker Ana Sofía Peláez’s lovely cookbook. The Culinary Institute of America Gala On April 30th, thanks to always-generous Dames Abigail Kirsch and Alison Awerbuch of Abigail Kirsch Caterers, a few very lucky Dames were invited to attend the prestigious CIA gala. The theme was Celebrate Women. Seven stars of the food world were honored, including our own Dame Lidia Bastianich and our Dames represented us well (see photo below). Upcoming programs Saturday, May 16th – “Insiders Tour of Jackson Heights, Queens.” Dame Surbhi Sahni will conduct a walking tour of her fascinating neighborhood. In that world of ethnicity from Asia to South America and more, we will sample wonderful foods and learn about all the coexisting cultures. Sunday, June 7th - A fun evening. “Sunday Supper in Harlem,” will take place at BLVD Bistro, located in an historic brownstone on Lenox Avenue that features southern-inspired cuisine. The discussion will give insights into how this now-fashionable neighborhood has evolved and where it’s headed. The Les Dames d’Escoffier International Annual Conference This year the conference will take place in charming Charleston, SC, from October 29 to November 1, 2015. The Charleston chapter is working full steam ahead to create unique and exciting programs. Details will be up on the LEDI Website www.ldei.org/ in mid-June. Many of our LDNY members are already planning to go, so consider joining us. It promises to be a truly southern great time!
