About the Organization
Since 1997, LeaderSpring’s highly respected leadership development programs have
strengthened approximately 350 nonprofit leaders and their organizations, resulting in greater
social and economic opportunities for hundreds of thousands of people living in the Bay Area’s
most impoverished neighborhoods. In 2010, LeaderSpring launched its earned revenue arm, the
LeaderSpring Consulting Group (LCG), to enable us to strengthen more leaders and managers
across California. LCG consults with philanthropic, nonprofit, and public agencies to develop
their grantees and/or staff into stronger leaders and managers in alignment with LeaderSpring’s
mission and values.

Summary
Reporting to LeaderSpring’s Director of Programs, the Associate Program Director leads
LeaderSpring’s consulting practice in delivering high-quality services to our clients. This
position is responsible for the design, execution, and evaluation of LeaderSpring’s consulting
services. The position also supports the identification and cultivation of potential clients, and
promotion of LeaderSpring’s consultant offerings. The Associate Program Director performs a
key role in building LCG’s infrastructure and shaping our overarching earned revenue strategy.
This position requires exceptional project management skills and an expertise in developing and
delivering in-depth and varied training curricula aimed at diverse groups of current and emerging
social sector leaders and organizations across California. A full-time exempt position, the
Associate Program Director manages a full-time Program Assistant.
Job Responsibilities
Consulting Design, Delivery, and Evaluation (55%)
 Lead the development, design, implementation, and evaluation of LeaderSpring’s
consulting practice using an array of effective training, facilitation, and leadership
development modalities (including retreats, executive coaching, leader circles, and
tailored professional development activities).
 Recruit and manage relationships with program consultants, coaches, trainers, and
volunteers.




Ensure that the consulting practice adheres to the terms of all relevant contracts or grant
agreements.
Design and administer in-depth evaluations of LeaderSpring’s consulting projects and
compile comprehensive analyses of quantitative and qualitative evaluation results.
Facilitate communications among participants and key staff members as needed, to
enable the consistent capture of information that documents the impact and value of
LeaderSpring’s consulting services.
Work proactively with participants and staff members in order to contribute to
LeaderSpring’s institutional knowledge, and internal and external communication
materials (e.g., grant proposals, reports, quotes, testimonials, and other program updates
for clients).
Project Management and Infrastructure (25%)
 Oversee day-to-day work of LeaderSpring’s consulting practice, by creating, executing,
and monitoring project work plans that include clear timelines, roles, resources, and
budget requirements.
 Create, implement, and, as needed, refine internal systems and tools that maximize the
operational efficiency and effectiveness of LeaderSpring’s consulting infrastructure (e.g.,
scope development and pricing tools, dashboard reporting).
 Work proactively with the Manager of Operations to develop consulting practice budgets
and lead the implementation and monitoring of these budgets.
 Supervise a full-time Program Assistant to support the development and implementation
of consulting offerings.
 Participate and contribute to LeaderSpring’s annual work plan and budget planning
process.
Business Development and Marketing (10%)
 Support the Director of Programs in identifying and stewarding potential clients, leading
to sustained business partnerships for LCG.
 Prepare marketing communications including, but not limited to, consulting practice
brochures, blog posts, slide decks, and/or other collateral material.
LeaderSpring Organizational Development (10%)
 Promote LeaderSpring’s mission and steward LeaderSpring’s overall well-being.
 Plan, lead, and/or participate in staff meetings and other processes that support the ongoing development of LeaderSpring.
 Participate in select panels and conferences that enable LeaderSpring to advance its
strategic priorities.
Qualifications
Experience
 At least five (5) years of experience in project, program, and/or organizational leadership,
including firsthand experience as a social sector leader and/or manager.
 Extensive background in and knowledge of nonprofit management, leadership
development, and/or organizational capacity building.
 Demonstrated record of accomplishment overseeing multiple projects that achieved highquality results and high levels of client satisfaction.
 Experience working directly with communities of color.


Master’s degree in a related field. An additional three (3) years of relevant experience
may be substituted for a graduate degree.
Bachelor’s degree.
Skills
 Exceptional facilitation skills. Understanding of group dynamics and how to “hold the
space” with a group.
 Superior ability to train and/or coach highly motivated adults.
 High level of cultural competence and skills working with diverse cohorts of social sector
leaders.
 Ability to develop and sustain strong relationships with and among program participants,
colleagues, and clients.
 Ability to exercise sound judgment and confidentiality.

Other
 Full-time, exempt position.
 Ability to attend overnight retreats (up to 3 days/nights) and travel (primarily in-state) as
needed.
