Introduction
The Local Energy Alliance Program (LEAP‐VA) conducts energy efficiency retrofit programs and promotes
renewable energy technologies in central and northern Virginia regions, with plans to expand in
response to client contracts and other business opportunities. LEAP’s programs currently focus primarily
on the residential sector. LEAP conducts these programs utilizing public and private funding. This
includes U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) funding, State Energy Program grants, and other sources of
funding. LEAP also generates significant revenue through its own operations.
Accounting and Bookkeeping Specialist Position
LEAP seeks an Accounting and Bookkeeping Specialist to work as a key member of our small, but fastpaced team. He or she will work closely with the Executive Director and Director of Operations to
manage the organization's financial accounts and assist with the budget process; reconcile bank
accounts and assist with monthly financial statement preparation and review; serve as part of the
internal controls process; aid LEAP in preparing for audit(s); and to help with other administrative and
fiscal management responsibilities as needed. The ideal candidate must have integrity, strong attention
to detail, patience, perseverance, and a sense of humor; he or she must also be self-motivated and a
good team player. Strong written and oral communication is important, and experience in a non-profit
environment is preferred, but not required.

Education
A solid educational background, with undergraduate degree required.

Manage the organization’s accounts using Quickbooks;
Manage AP and AR Registers
Invoice clients and pay vendors
Reconcile bank accounts;
Manage outsourced payroll function;
Assist with monthly review of accounts in accounting software;
Assist with annual budgeting process;
Lead preparation for annual external audit(s);

Work with the Executive Director and/or Director of Operations to develop and maintain
financial and administrative policies and improve internal controls.
Key Qualifications
• Results focused—proven track record of good and accurate work;
• Evidence of an ability to consistently make good decisions through a combination of analysis,
experience, judgment and creative resourcefulness;
• Excellent computer skills—Excel & Quickbooks;
• Reliability and accountability.
Work Experience
Minimum five (5) years of experience preferred.
Compensation
Position is part-time 24-28 hours/week with some flexibility to hours/days. Compensation will be
commensurate with experience.
