(1-19) Phil Emery, of Brewer, on the occasion of his retirement as the Bangor High School
swimming coach, after 46 years of coaching. Mr. Emery taught earth science at Bangor High
School for 38 years and retired from teaching but continued on as a champion swimming coach
with 26 Class A State Championships. He is a member of the Maine Sports Hall of Fame and an
alumnus of Bangor High School, where he was a swimmer and a member of the school's first
state championship team in 1964. Mr. Emery has been Zone 1 state director for the National
Interscholastic Swimming Coaches Organization since 1985 and will continue to stay involved in
that capacity. We send our appreciation to Mr. Emery for his longtime commitment to teaching
and coaching the youth of Bangor, and we extend to him our congratulations on his retirement;

WHEREAS, the Legislature has learned with deep regret of the death of:
(4-22) James Joseph Mooney, a lifelong resident of Hampden and a communicant of St.
Matthew's Church. He was a graduate of the University of Maine and a member of the United
States Army Air Corps, serving in Germany. Mr. Mooney operated the family business, Stern's
Lumber Co., Inc. He was a past president of the Retail Lumber Dealer's Association of Maine
and was the Maine Lumberman of the Year. Mr. Mooney was involved in the planning of St.
Matthew's Church in Hampden, served on the Hampden Water District and was a 4th degree
member of the Knights of Columbus. He will be greatly missed and long remembered by his
loving family and friends;
