Dear Parents/ Guardians,
Confirmation
Congratulations to all our 6th class pupils who received the sacrament of confirmation on Sunday 26th
April. Thanks to the pupils who read and played music during the ceremony. Thanks to Mr Blake for
preparing pupils for this special day.
First Holy Communion
First Holy Communion will take place on Saturday 23rd May at 12 noon in St. Joseph’s Church, Leitrim
Village.
Thanks to the parents of pupils in First Class who have volunteers to assist with the party. Your names
will be passed onto the Parents Association. All volunteers still welcome.
Induction Day 2015
As previously advised Induction Day for new Junior Infant Pupils will take place on Thursday 21st May
from 1.45 to 2.45pm. The current Junior and Senior Infants will go home at 1pm on this day to
facilitate the new children.
Rugby Blitz
Pupils in 4th, 5th and 6th class participated in a Rugby Blitz on Wednesday 29th April at the Rugby
Grounds in Carrick-on-Shannon.
GAA Blitz
Pupils in 3rd and 4th class will participate in a GAA Blitz at the Allen Gaels pitch tomorrow Friday 8th May.
Thanks to Clodagh Keane and Aisling O’Boyle who volunteered to take children to the event. As a
result we only needed to book one bus.
School Closure
The school will be closed on Friday 22nd May as the school will be used as a polling station on that day.
National Walk to School Week
The week commencing Monday 11th May is the National Walk to School week. Wednesday 13th May is
the National Walk to School Day. We are asking everyone to make an extra special effort that week
and especially on Wednesday 13th to walk all or part of the way to school.
Supermacs Colouring Competition
Congratulations to Hannah Walsh, 2nd class, who won first place in the Supermacs colouring
competition. Hannah and all of 2nd class together with Ms Quinn and Mrs Gardiner went to Supermacs

on Wednesday 29th April for a make and bake session. Every pupil made their own individual pizza
putting their own choice of toppings on. Everyone enjoyed the trip.
Transferring to Secondary School
As part of our school Transition Programme, preparing pupils to transfer to secondary school, 6th class
pupils will complete “My Profile” Parents/Guardians of 6th class pupils will be asked to complete “My
Child’s Profile”. These documents together with a copy of the 6th class end of year school report will be
forwarded to the relevant secondary school on confirmation of enrolment in that school.
Literacy and Numeracy Activities
A new website www.helpmykidlearn.ie contains a lot of enjoyable activities to help children develop
literacy and numeracy skills.
5K run – 21st June
A 5km fun run will take place in Leitrim Village on Sunday 21st June. More details will follow later.
Walk in aid of Heart Foundation – 24th May
Family fun day 5k run/walk in aid of Irish Heart Foundation & Community Field in Leitrim Village on
Sunday 24th May at 11.30am. Registration from 10am. Starting from football pitch . . . . prizes and
refreshments. Sponsored by Cox's Pharmacy. Special guest All Star Mickey Quinn. Please come out in
support.
