New Secretary General of OIC Took Office
H.E Mr. Iyad bin Ameen AlMadani took office as the
10th Secretary General of
the Organisation of Islamic
Cooperation (OIC) on
January 1, 2014. In prelude
to that, the new Secretary
General met with all Heads
of the subsidiary organs of New Secretary General of OIC, H.E Mr. Iyad
OIC on December 30, 2013 bin Ameen Al-Madani and Vice-Chancellor of
IUT Prof. Dr. M. Imtiaz Hossain.
at the OIC Head Quarters in
Jeddah during which he was informed about the latest situation of
IUT. At the meeting, on behalf of the faculty members, employees
and students of IUT Prof. Dr. M. Imtiaz Hossain welcomed the new
Secretary General who is also the Chancellor of IUT.
VC Attended Farewell Party for Outgoing
Secretary General of OIC
At the invitation of the General Secretariat, the Vice-Chancellor of
IUT, Prof. Dr. M. Imtiaz Hossain attended a party to bid farewell to
the outgoing Secretary General of OIC H.E Professor Ekmeleddin
Ihsanoglu and welcome the newly elected Secretary General H.E
Mr. Iyad bin Ameen Al-Madani. The party was held on December
29, 2013 in Jeddah.

VC Welcomes Newly Admitted Students
The Vice-Chancellor of IUT, Prof. Dr. M. Imtiaz Hossain welcomed
the newly admitted students of the 2013-2014 academic session in
a ceremony held in the Auditorium on January 21, 2014. Heads of
the Departments, Offices and Centres, Chairmen of the different
Committees, the Registrar, the Provost and other officials of the
university attended the function. The Vice-Chancellor stated that
Prof. Dr. M. Imtiaz Hossain speaking at the freshers’ reception
IUT has developed excellent academic facilities for the students to
prepare them for their professional lives and to contribute to the
socio-economic development of their respective countries and the
Muslim Ummah in general. Welcoming the Fresh students he stressed
on the need of putting topmost priority on academic activities by
each and every student throughout their stay in the University. He
also mentioned that all facilities provided by the university should
be used to gain knowledge and not waste time on unnecessary
activities. With students of different nationalities, different cultures
and different languages, IUT provides a unique opportunity to
inculcate the true spirit of Islam. The Vice-Chancellor urged the
students to develop a common understanding and harmonious
relationship among themselves and also to maintain conducive
academic environment. He advised the students to participate in the
various activities of IUT such as those organised by the Debating
Society, Photographic Society, Islamic Studies Society, Computer
Society, Games and Sports Committee, etc. He further urged the
freshmen to maintain discipline, punctuality, regularity, yearning
for acquiring knowledge, respect for others and effective utilisation
of their time in all curricular, co-curricular and extra-curricular
activities. Heads of the Departments, Offices and Centres, Chairmen
of different Committees, Provost and the Registrar also spoke on
the occasion to apprise the students about different educational,
social, cultural, co-curricular and extra-curricular activities as well
as rules and regulations of the university.
Orientation Programme and Fresher’s
Reception of IUTPS
The Islamic University of Technology Photographic Society
(IUTPS) arranged an orientation programme and fresher’s reception
for the new members of the society on Wednesday, 15 January 2014
at IUT Campus. Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Dr. M. Imtiaz Hossain was
(Lecturer, MCE), Bari Fayaz (EEE’11) and Zonayed Ahmed Rakib
(CSE’10) performed as institutional adjudicator.
WUDC, 2014 was specially important for IUT as Mr. Razee
broke the best speaker point record in IUT history and IUT was
placed among top 100 debating universities of the globe. Regular
practice sessions, study conferences and constructive guidance of
IUTDS proved worthy in developing the rationale of debaters and
adjudicators. And thus, IUTDS was able to uphold the reputation of
the institution in the international debating community.

Dr. Md. Zahid Hossain, Chairman, Social and Cultural Activities

Chairmen of different Committees, staff members and students of
the university also attended the function.
Mid-Semester Exam of 2013-2014
The mid-semester examination of the Winter Semester of the 20132014 Academic Year started on February 24, 2014. The exam will
continue until 04 March 2014. Prof. Dr. M. Imitiaz Hossain, ViceChancellor of IUT visited the different examination halls to inspect
the progress of the examination. Regular classes of the Winter
Semester are scheduled to start on March 10, 2014.
IUTDS welcomes the new logical minds
The pioneer society for co-curricular activities Islamic University
of Technology Debating Society (IUTDS) observed its Fresher’s
reception of the new academic batch of 2014 on January 21 through
the auspicious event-“Café Debate”. The event started by the
speech of one of the prominent alumnus-Tahsin Mahmud Jeehad
(MCE’07). Then, the guests enjoyed the main attraction of the event
“Café Debate”. While the debate started, the audience were served
with donuts and coffee. The debate was full of wit and humour
which proved really worthy to entertain the audience. The debate
was adjudicated by Md. Shariful Islam Chowdhury, Moderator and
Alumni of IUTDS and current lecturer at MCE department with
Tahsin Mahmud Jeehad as the chair. The event ended with the
registration of the freshers.
Seminar on “Hole Inter-subband Transition
in the Valence Band of GaAs/A1(Ga) As
Material System”
Mr. Mohammed Imrul Hossain, Doctoral student, Department of
ECE, Purdue University, West Lafayette, USA gave a talk on “Hole
Inter-subband Transition in the Valence Band of GaAs/A1(Ga)
As Material System” in a seminar arranged by EEE Department
and IEEE on Wednesday, 19 February 2014 at IUT Campus. ViceChancellor, Prof. Dr. M. Imtiaz Hossain was present as Chief Guest.
Heads of the Departments, Faculty Members, Staff members and

Breaking the records in WUDC, 2014
The World University Debate Championship (WUDC) 2014 took
place in RajaLaxmi Engineering College, Chennai, India. Two
teams comprising of Mehedi Hossain (MCE’09), Tamzid Azad
(CSE’10) and Syed M. Razee (MCE’12), Dewan Badhan (EEE’11)

Seminar on “Cloud Technology for
Enterprise Network Solution”
IUTDS in the World University Debate Championship (WUDC) 2014
A Seminar on “Cloud Technology for Enterprise Network Solution”
was held on Thursday 16 January 2014. Mr. Md. Arman Hossain, a
graduate of CSE Department, IUT and currently serving as a Cloud
Solution Consultant in Telstra, Sydney, Australia delivered a lecture
on the topic. Prof. Dr. M. A. Mottalib, Head, CSE Department
presided over the function.
A Seminar on “Software Development and
Associated Fields of Concern”
Mr. Fahad Hasan, a graduate of CSE Department, IUT and
currently serving as a Senior Software Engineer in Impulse (BD)
Ltd., Bangladesh delivered a lecture on “Software Development
and Associated Fields of Concern” on Friday 07 February 2014.
Prof. Dr. M. A. Mottalib, Head, CSE Department presided over the
seminar.

A Seminar on “Software Development and Associated Fields of Concern”
Imagine Cup Boot Camp at IUT
Microsoft Imagine Cup is considered as a prestigious student
technology competition. In order to inspire the students of IUT to
join the challenge, Microsoft and IUT arranged a boot camp on 18
February, 2014. Mr. Tanzim Saqib, Technical Evangelist, Microsoft
Bangladesh was present as the main speaker in the seminar. Mr.
Hasan Mahmud, Microsoft Program Administrator and Assistant
Professor, CSE Department and Prof. Dr. M.A. Mottalib, Head,
CSE Department were also present among others.
There were 15 events on the day of competition e.g., 100 m, 200 m
and 400 m sprint, High jump, Shot put, Running Broad Jump etc.
The finals of the some events like Running-triple-jump, Javelin
throw, Discuss throw etc. were held on 28 January and 04 February
2014. There were separate events for distinguished guests, IUT
staff members, children of the employees, cafeteria & dormitory
staff members along with ladies program. The EEE department
became 1st , MCE department became 2nd and CSE department
became 3rd in the Inter-Department 4X100m relay race.
This year, the Championship trophy of the Annual Athletic
Competition was won by Md. Nawshad Siddique (St. No. 112467)
and Runner-Up trophy was won by Md. Rakib Uddin (St. No.
101431). The Chief Guest and Vice-Chancellor distributed the
prizes among the winners.
24th Annual Athletic Competition 2014
The 24th Annual Athletic Competition 2014 was held on the IUT
Playground on Saturday 08 February 2014. H.E Madam Norlin
Binti Othman, High Commissioner of Malaysia in Bangladesh
inaugurated the program as Chief Guest. Prof. Dr. M. Imtiaz
Hossain, Vice-Chancellor of IUT attended the programme and
distributed the prizes among the winners. Prof. Dr. Md. Anayet Ullah
Patwari, Chairman, Games and Sports Committee, distinguished
guests from Diplomatic Missions based in Dhaka and other invited
guests, Heads of the Departments, Offices and Centres, Faculty
Members, Staff members and students were present on the occasion
and enjoyed the day-long programme.
Long jump event of the annual athletic competition 2014
The 2014 Inter-Departmental Cricket and
Badminton Competition
Inter-department Cricket Competition 2014 was held on 10
February 2014. EEE Department became the Champion & CEE
Department became the Runner-Up.
Badminton Double Competition 2014 was held on 10 February
1014. The Champions are S.M. Samiul Hossain (St. No. 111403)
& Shihabuzzaman (St. No.114402) and Runner-Ups are Ishmam
Haque Bhuiyan (St. No. 104437) & Sayed Ahmed Al Hasan
Hemal (St. No. 101416).
IUT Faculty member awarded Scholarships for
Higher Study
Inauguration of 24th Annual Athletic Competion 2014
Mr. Faisal Ahmed, Assistant Professor, CSE Department has been
awarded scholarship from University of Calgary, Canada and he is
perusing MSc degree in the same university.
Mr. Mahmud Hasan, Assistant Professor, CSE Department has been
awarded scholarship from Macquarie University, Australia and he
is perusing his PhD degree there.
Mr. Shahriar Kaisar, Assistant Professor, CSE Department has
been awarded scholarship from Monash University, Australia. He
is currently on leave and perusing his PhD degree in that university
with the mentioned scholarship.
New Appointment
Dr. Syed Iftekhar Ali has joined EEE department as an Associate
Professor.
Dr. Md. Faruque Ahmed Haolader joined TVE department as an
Associate Professor.
Mr. Adoum Mohamat, a national of Cameroon
and graduate of IUT joined the University as
Assistant-Translator-cum-PS to the VC.
