Responsibilities:
1. Manage Media Viewing Room. Receive, schedule, and confirm faculty scheduling requests.
Prepare set-up of Media Viewing Room system for class showings, including troubleshooting of
minor problems as they occur. Maintain schedule and coordinate staff coverage.
2. Assist faculty, staff, and students, as well as non-University public users at both unit service
desks: Film & Video Collection and Student Multimedia Design Center. Respond to inquiries
about audiovisual, microform, map and CD-ROM collections and services in-person, via
telephone and by e-mail. Assist users with computer hardware, software applications, and
scanners and the use and loan of audiovisual and multimedia equipment. Provide information
on University of Delaware Library services and resources, including demonstration of searching
techniques for DELCAT /WorldCat, networked databases, and other internet resources.
Interpret policies and procedures. Provide functional supervision of student assistants.
Coordinate Interlibrary Loan requests for items from the Film & Video Collection.
3. Develop multimedia content in support of outreach programs and initiatives of the Multimedia
Collections and Services Department. Create and maintain graphic and video content for
interactive digital kiosks, digital frames, and video monitors in public areas. Create original
artwork and design elements for departmental posters, signs, flyers, handouts, PowerPoint
presentations, including logos, and animated GIFs. Edit photos and produce multimedia
tutorials. Assist in design and editing of unit webpages.
4. Maintain inventory and readiness of in-house viewing equipment. Install, maintain and
troubleshoot this equipment. Repair, clean and inspect video equipment and related peripherals.
Schedule and oversee regular preventative maintenance and service calls. Train student
assistants and staff on use of audiovisual equipment and advise staff of problems with
equipment. Provide technology support and point-of-use instruction on computer hardware,
software, and peripherals. Troubleshoot initial technology problems in public user and staff
areas.
5. Provide technology and administrative support for department instruction, including the
multimedia literacy program. Participate in the review, adaptation, and creation of new
instruction products and services. Create and edit multimedia tutorials and other instructional
products in various media formats. Assist in production of instructional slides, templates,
posters, and classroom handouts. Create and maintain a Microsoft Access database for the
collection of instruction statistics.
6. Provide department office support including answering phones, greeting patrons, sorting mail,
filing, and photocopying. Assist with Film and Video collection management and accessibility.
Review, recommend and implement changes in workflow.
Qualifications: High school diploma or GED with two years of multimedia experience preferred.
Requires experience with multimedia and web-based content in an educational, media or related
environment. Knowledge of multimedia software and hardware, including video editing software,
video cameras, and AV projection equipment. Knowledge of library records, automated library
systems and other specialized library databases. Ability to perform bibliographic searches in a
variety of databases and the Internet. Knowledge of standard design and editing techniques utilized
in producing visual content for instructional purposes. Ability to create and produce visual
content, finished artwork, posters, displays and publications. Proficiency with multimedia and
graphics editing software such as Photoshop, Camtasia Studio. Ability to use a variety of media
and digital imaging equipment. Ability to solve problems under time constraints; ability to follow
complex instructions; ability to work independently and devise solutions to problems; effective
organizational skills. Excellent proofreading skills and attention to detail. Demonstrated ability to
use intermediate computer techniques in word processing, spreadsheet, database and Web-based
applications. Ability to troubleshoot standard office computing hardware, software and equipment
problems as well as specialized multimedia computing concerns. Ability to transfer technology
concepts across applications. Ability to communicate technical information to people with various
levels of computer expertise and to interact effectively with people of all ages and diverse
backgrounds. Must be able to lift and move, with or without assistance, computer equipment
weighing up to 50 pounds. Previous experience supervising student assistants and excellent
customer service skills preferred.
Hours: Tuesday through Thursday 9am-6pm; Friday 8am-6pm; Saturday 12:30-5pm. Hours vary
for Winter and Summer Sessions and semester breaks.
Context of Job: The Multimedia Collections and Services Department at the University of
Delaware Library includes the Student Multimedia Design Center (SMDC) and an extensive Film
and Video Collection. The SMDC is a state-of-the-art multimedia facility with two instructional
classrooms, four digital video studios, and more than 80 computers for individual and collaborative
student use. The Center provides multi-level editing equipment and software, SMART boards to
rehearse presentations, and more than 145 kits, such as video camera kits, for circulation. Print,
copy, scan, digital transfer, and digital mapping (GIS) services are also provided. See

provides materials in VHS, DVD, Blu-ray, and other legacy formats, along with streaming media
via subscription database access. Film and Video service area includes 23 individual viewing carrels
and a 49-seat Media Viewing Room for scheduled course screenings. Video gaming stations are the
