Introduction
The WT Henley Pup busbar has been used on the UKPN network for some years. The
busbar is currently only suitable for use on WT Henley, Series 7, 8.
The Pup busbar from WT Henley has previously been used to supply a second service from
an existing 100A supply with the two fuses fed from the service restricted to 60A. This
practice will not be allowed for new services. In future, for new services, the fuse rating of
the second fuse will be restricted to 30A and the main fuse to 60A (see drawing below).

The original pup busbar was designed with only a single screw termination and service
failures have occurred on existing services. The new design of busbar provides full contact
with both screws in the terminal. The new design is shown Section 5 and should be used to
replace any existing Pup busbars found on the UK Power Network.
2
Scope
This bulletin applies to all three networks within UK Power Networks and should be applied
to all new and existing services supplied using the WT Henley Pup busbar.

Description
3.1
Existing Services
Where existing services are discovered with the old style of Pup busbar they should be
replaced with the new style. When changing the Pup, a check must be made to ensure that
the main fuse in the existing service is reduced to a maximum of 60A. If a higher rated fuse
is discovered, then it must be replaced with a 60A fuse. If this is not done the cut-out could
be subjected to an overload and may fail. The principle of reducing both fuses to 60A must
also be applied to all existing looped services using cables. Looped services must not be
fused above 60A.
3.2
New Services
When used for a new service, the maximum size of fuse in the service supplied by the Pup
will be 30A. A 30A wide bodied fuse to fit the standard 100A WT Henley fuse carriers will be
supplied with each Pup busbar.
4
Actions Required
4.1
Existing Services
Replace older style Pup busbars with the new style and ensure that the main service is
down-rated to a maximum of 60A and the pup is fused at 30A. The fuse carriers must be
appropriately labelled.
4.2
New Services
The WT Henley Pup busbar is only permitted for use on new services up to 30A and the
main fuse may only be rated up to 60A

Installation Instructions
To install a WT Henley Pup busbar onto an existing or new service, follow the instructions
below:
1. The old style Pup busbar.
Note: The original Pup busbar was
designed with only a single screw
termination and service failures have
occurred on existing services.

5. Remove the plastic plug.
By pushing inwards towards were the
plug is located with a screwdriver the
plug should fall out; alternatively you
may use a pair of pliers to pull the plug
out.
6. Undo terminal screws.
Undo the terminals on the bottom left
hand of the single pole and neutral cutout and also the single-phase unit. The
busbar will only fit in these terminals
and if it is being used on an existing
service the incoming service cable may
need to be moved to the right hand
side terminal.
7. Insert Pup fuse on the left hand
terminal.
Ensure pup is fully inserted into the
carrier.
8. Install the second fuse way and
secure to the meter board.
Ensure the Pup is fully inserted into
both carriers so that no gaps are left or
exposed to foreign object ingress.
Note: That the cable termination on
second fuse way is blocked. Secure
carrier to the back board.

are utilised.

carrier and down-rate the main fuse to
