We are seeking distinctive homes under 2,000 square feet between main and upper floors combined for the Linden Hills Little Homes Tour, to take place Saturday, June 20 from noon to 5:00 p.m. Visit our website for more information. The goal of the tour is to highlight small houses that exemplify gracious living while preserving the character and charm of Linden Hills. Street Sweeping & Yard Waste Collection Begins Help Save a Neighborhood Landmark April 16 Deadline for Fundraising Campaign Join the cause of saving one of Minneapolis' few remaining examples of Classical Revival architecture, and a neighborhood treasure. Help to stabilize the building's north facade. Please support the Lake Harriet Spiritual Community's efforts to restore this important building, now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. A Kickstarter campaign is underway to spread the word and raise funding for this critical work. Visit the project webpage to watch a video on the history of the building and to learn about the restoration efforts. The fundraising campaign wraps up on Thursday, April 16 and the effort is well short of its fundraising goal. Please help, if you can. Questions can be directed to [email protected]. Save the Date for the Linden Hills Festival Sunday, May 17, 11a.m. to 5p.m. Linden Hills Park Mark your calendars for the annual Festival at the park. Plan to join your neighbors for the day where you can enjoy live music, a terrific silent auction, the eclectic art fair and marketplace, fabulous food, pony rides, bounce houses and games for the kids! Can you help? Volunteering at the Festival is a great way to meet people in the neighborhood. Sign up now to secure your preferred volunteer shift, scooping ice cream, selling tickets, helping at the silent auction, or helping the food folks. We love our volunteers! If you can donate an item for the Silent Auction, please submit information here. Since 1975, the Festival is the one fundraising event of the year for the Linden Hills Neighborhood Council. Proceeds help us support our community with grants to local organizations and student scholarships; funding for new trees at the park and other improvements, and the printing of the Linden Hills Line newsletter. Annual Neighborhood Garage Sales are May 16 Back by popular demand, the Linden Hills neighborhood garage sales are scheduled for Saturday, May 16. Register your sale to be listed on the widely distributed garage sale map and get a FUN lawn sign. We advertise the sales in the Star Tribune and Southwest Journal. Earth Month Events Continue at the Co-op Workshops are hosted by the Linden Hills Co-op's Climate Action Team Thursday, April 16: Multimodal Transportation Systems: 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Kick the tires of a Tesla and other electric vehicles, find out what it takes to be a bicycle commuter, and get other tips about alternative transportation opportunities. Learn about our Bicycle Benefits program and more at this interactive and informative workshop. Wednesday, April 22: Earth Day Webcast "Climate Urgency & How Heartland Farmers and Businesses Can Take the Lead" 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Celebrate Earth Day with a live lecture webcast from Iowa State University featuring Katharine Hayhoe, an atmospheric scientist and a climate change evangelist. Thursday, April 30: Protect Our Pollinators 6:30 - 8:30 p.m. Concerned about pollinators, local, organic food sources and how to manage the extreme rain events that are more frequent in recent years? Join gardening experts and Master Water Stewards to talk about your yard and garden as solutions for growing food, managing storm water, and sequestering excess carbon, while attracting pollinators. Workshops are FREE and take place at the Linden Hills Co-op, 3815 Sunnyside Ave. Streetcars Roll Again The Como-Harriet Streetcar Line begins its 44th year in Linden Hills on May 2. Streetcars run from 12:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Weekday service begins Friday, May 22. Find the complete schedule at TrolleyRide.org. Moms ride free on Mothers' Day Sunday, May 10. Spring Community Cleanup Day May 2 Please join the Southwest Community Education Advisory Council and students from Southwest High School in a one-morning effort to help clean up around the community. Meet at Southwest High School at 8:30 a.m. on Saturday, May 2 for juice, coffee, and rolls. The clean-up will run from 9:00 a.m. to noon. The cleanup will concentrate around the school and the shorelines along Minnehaha Creek, Lake Harriet, and Lake Calhoun (bus transportation will be provided to and from the school). A gourmet picnic lunch will be provided for everyone back at school! This project is being sponsored by the Southwest Community Education Advisory Council and the Southwest Green Team. Watch for temporary "No Parking" signs to avoid a ticket and a tow. Parking will be banned from 7:00 a.m. until 4:30 p.m. on the day a street is swept. "No Parking" signs will be posted at least 24 hours in advance. The street sweeping schedule is available here. Please do not push leaves, grass clippings, or other debris into City streets it's bad for our lakes and waterways and it's against the law. Yard waste collection begins this week.
