Canada’s international reputation has been tarnished by the actions of Mr
Harper. Having worked on many international partnerships, Lise strongly
believes that Canada should be working with our allies to promote
cooperation, tolerance and respect, as well as provide aid and capacitybuilding partnerships to those in the greatest need.
An Active Approach to Social Policy
Since Mr. Harper came into power, health and social issues have been
virtually absent from the federal agenda. Lise believes that Ottawa can work
in collaboration with the provinces and municipalities to strengthen health
care, improve access to childcare and make housing accessible to everyone
who needs it.
Security Shouldn’t Mean an End to Privacy
Bill-C51 takes steps towards addressing legitimate security concerns, but
puts Canadians rights to privacy at risk by giving too much power to CSIS and
offering too little oversight. Lise will work to change the bill to ensure both
the security of Canadians and our right to civil liberties.
Climate and Environment Can Be Balanced with Business
Mr. Harper has moved us backward on our international commitment
to climate change. Climate change adaptation and mitigation will spur
innovation and make our businesses resilient and competitive in the coming
world — a lesson Lise knows well from helping to create Guelph’s innovative
Community Energy Initiative and through her work as a Council member
of the Green Municipal Fund, investing in communities that are driving
innovation in sustainability.
