tournaments before, you know the emphasis is more on the fun and excitement
of playing against other club members
than it is on the competitive nature of the
matches.
Important Notice: A Men’s 80 Doubles event has been added to the list of
events for the Spring 2015 tournament.

1. Please refer to the entry form to determine which events are appropriate
for you. If you would like to compete, but do not know which events
to enter, please contact Scott Farr.
He will help you determine the right
events.
2. Also, if you are interested in playing
in a Doubles’ event, but do not have
a partner, we will be glad to find a
partner for you. Simply send in your
entry along with a notation that you
will need a partner. We will do everything possible to find you a Doubles partner.

Welcome to the La Jolla Tennis Club, 2015. We are here for your tennis enjoyment! Our members-only tournament is coming up soon; April 18, 19 & 25, 26. Don't forget
to sign up!
Some of you might not be aware that we have many clinics available on a daily basis
where you can not only get some good exercise, improve your game, but also meet new
players. A list of the clinics is on page 5 of this newsletter.
In addition to the Spring tournament and the various clinics, the La Jolla Tennis Club
will have many other programs which will be available to the members. For example, in June
the La Jolla Tennis Club will be hosting the 99th Annual La Jolla Tennis Championships
which has the distinction of being the oldest tennis tournament continually held at the same
venue in the United States. Outside financial support is imperative for the success of this
prestigious tournament. If you would like to be a personal or corporate sponsor for the La
Jolla Tennis Championships, please let us know.
The La Jolla Tennis Club also supports numerous Men’s, Women’s and Mixed Doubles league teams. For details regarding our league teams, please contact the Pro Shop.
If you would like to reserve a court, please call the Pro Shop one to three days in advance. If you have a court reservation, you are encouraged to arrive 5 minutes early. If players are not present at the start of the reserved time, they may lose the court.
Also, keep your eyes out for some changes to our web site www.ljtc.org. One of the
changes will be the ability to use Pay Pal for annual membership dues.
We hope you enjoy the La Jolla Tennis Club. If you have any suggestions for tennis programs such as social mixers or round robins, please let us know. This is your tennis club.
We encourage any feedback for improvement of the club.

2014 Fall “Members Only” Tournament
With over 100 entrants in 26 events, the
2014 Fall Tournament
was one of the most
successful tournaments in recent years.
Men’s A Singles
Josh Parker (L) - Champion

There were 10 entrants in the Men’s A
Singles event. In the
Finals, Josh Parker
defeated Connor
Schiller 6-1, 6-3.
The Finals of the
Women’s A Singles
was very exciting.
After an hour and a
half of great tennis,
Terri Bourne prevailed over Joyce
Passananti 7-6, 6-3.

After the Fall tournament was completed, 8
teams competed in a 1 Day Women’s Double tournament. The results of the 1st match determined
which teams were competing in the A Division and
which teams were competing in the B Division.

99th Annual La Jolla Championship Opportunities
The membership fees at the La Jolla Tennis Club are the lowest tennis club fees in San Diego. The club
is financed by the membership fees, and private & corporate donations. If you would like to help keep the
membership fees down, consider becoming a sponsor for the 99th Annual La Jolla Tennis Championships.
Every little bit helps. Any donation, large or small, is very much appreciated. For example, a donation
of $100 would help us to continue keeping the memberships fees down.
With a donation of $500 your name and/or company logo would be on the summer tournament entry
forms which are mailed to over 5,000 U.S.T.A. members in San Diego county. In addition, your name
and/or logo would be displayed on the back of the tournament t-shirts, and placed on the La Jolla Tennis
Club web site for 1 year.
With a donation of $1,000, in addition to the benefits of the $500 donors, a 3’x5’ banner with your
name/logo will be prominently displayed on the tennis courts for 1 year.

League Scene
League tennis is very active at the La Jolla Tennis Club.
Congratulations to the La Jolla Tennis Club Women’s A team. Under the guidance
of captain, Terri Bourne, they were the champions of the San Diego Fall A Tennis League.
The Spring league season produced several champions from the La Jolla Tennis
Club. The Women’s A team (Terri Bourne - captain) is in a good position to successfully defend their championship. Loren Pinn and Sabine Bradshaw were the captains of the La
Jolla Tennis Club team which were the champions of the BB1 division. Dara Stern and
Sandra Moore were the captains of the La Jolla Tennis Club team which were the champions of the BB2 division.
The U.S.T.A. Spring season for all levels of competition is about to begin. If you
are interested in competing on a La Jolla Tennis Club U.S.T.A. team, please let us know.
We are looking forward to another exciting league season at the La Jolla Tennis Club.

A Level Player This player can regularly hit winners or force errors off short balls and can put away volleys, can successfully execute lobs, drop
shots, half volleys, overhead and has good depth and spin on most 2nd serves.
B Level Player This player has achieved improved stroke dependability with directional control on moderate shots. This player exhibits more
aggressive net play, has improved court coverage, and is developing court teamwork in doubles.
C Level Player This player is fairly consistent when hitting medium paced shots, but is not comfortable with all stokes and lacks execution when
trying for directional control, depth or power.
