Let us praise and join the chorus of the saints enthroned on high; here they trusted him before us, now their praises fill the sky: “Thou hast washed us with thy blood (3x), thou art worthy, Lamb of God!” WELCOME TO LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH April 26, 2015 words by John Newton, 1774 Welcome and greetings Benediction Joe Donnovin * Responsive call to worship Congregational meeting Musicians for this week: David Henry – vocalist, guitar Hannah Lutz – viola Jac Villagonzalo – piano Regan Huisman – vocalist Sam Miller – violin Megan Wingard – vocalist NEW MEMBERS JOINING LMPC TODAY Kaitlyn Allison Hunter Grace Anderson Chris Barr Christi Barr Mae Mae Bennett Eric Beveridge Meredith Bevill Tyler Bowen Ben Brock Johnny Codington Holland Collett Bailey Diamondidis Eliza Diamondidis Sam Diamondidis Ellen Ford Cassie Gillmore Xaverie Goodman Martha Griffin Nate Groelsema Sarah Groelsema Jess Groenendyk Mitchell Hailey Elizabeth Haley Heath Haley Whit Halvorson Hannah Harrell Mark Harrell Jennie Head Phyllis Henderson Andrew Hill Garrett Hill Jack Hudson Abby Irwin Kim Kaye Larry Kaye Jonathan Kelley Flannery Lowe Henri Lowe Adam Lutz Hannah Lutz Benjamin Palmer Cara Palmer Ethan Pettit Robert Pettit Janie Pippenger Wiley Pippenger Hope Plating Nate Plating Diane Reed Larry Reed Mary Rice Andrew Scott Cameron Scott Kerry Sorrell Tim Sorrell Savannah Stephens Tim Stern Chase Waller Alexandra Walley Zach Walley Karisa Wells Virginia Witcher Will Witcher Adalynn Wykoff Leader: Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth. All: Sing to the LORD, praise his name; proclaim his salvation day after day. Leader: Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples. All: For great is the LORD and most worthy of praise; he is to be feared above all gods. For all the gods of the nations are idols, but the LORD made the heavens. Splendor and majesty are before him; strength and glory are in his sanctuary. Leader: Ascribe to the LORD, O families of nations, ascribe to the LORD glory and strength. Ascribe to the LORD the glory due his name; bring an offering and come into his courts. All: Worship the LORD in the splendor of his holiness; tremble before him, all the earth. * Hymn of praise “O Worship the King” O worship the King all glorious above, O gratefully sing his pow’r and his love; our shield and Defender, the Ancient of Days, pavilioned in splendor and girded with praise. O tell of his might, O sing of his grace, whose robe is the light, whose canopy space. His chariots of wrath the deep thunderclouds form, and dark is his path on the wings of the storm. Frail children of dust, and feeble as frail, in you do we trust, nor find you to fail; your mercies how tender, how firm to the end, our Maker, Defender, Redeemer, and Friend! based on Psalm 104, words by Robert Grant, 1833 * Prayer of adoration Evening prayer in the chapel—6:00 p.m. Psalm 96:1-9 Call to confession 1 John 1:5-10 This is the message we have heard from him and declare to you: God is light; in him there is no darkness at all. If we claim to have fellowship with him yet walk in the darkness, we lie and do not live by the truth. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin. Worship in the giving of God’s tithe and our offerings Offertory hymn “Jesus Lover of My Soul” Jesus, lover of my soul, let me to thy bosom fly, while the nearer waters roll, while the tempest still is high: hide me, O my Savior, hide, till the storm is past; safe into the haven guide, receive my soul at last! If we claim to be without sin, we deceive ourselves and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. If we claim we have not sinned, we make him out to be a liar and his word has no place in our lives. Thou, O Christ, art all I want; more than all in thee I find: raise the fallen, cheer the faint, heal the sick, and lead the blind. Just and holy is thy name; I am all unrighteousness; false and full of sin I am, thou art full of truth and grace. Silent prayers of confession Plenteous grace with thee is found, grace to cover all my sin; let the healing streams abound; make and keep me pure within: thou of life the fountain art, let me take of thee; spring thou up within my heart, to all eternity. Assurance of God’s pardoning grace taken from Psalm 103 The LORD is compassionate and gracious, slow to anger, abounding in love. He does not treat us as our sins deserve or repay us according to our iniquities. For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us. * Hymn of assurance “How Great Thou Art” O Lord my God, when I in awesome wonder consider all the worlds thy hands have made, I see the stars, I hear the rolling thunder, thy power throughout the universe displayed. Refrain: Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to thee: how great thou art, how great thou art! Then sings my soul, my Savior God, to thee: how great thou art, how great thou art! And when I think that God, his Son not sparing, sent him to die, I scarce can take it in, that on the cross, my burden gladly bearing, he bled and died to take away my sin. Refrain When Christ shall come with shout of acclamation and take me home, what joy shall fill my heart! Then I shall bow in humble adoration, and there proclaim, my God, how great thou art. Refrain words by Stuart K. Hine, 1949 words by Charles Wesley, 1740 Membership vows * Scripture reading from Habakkuk 1:5-11 9:30 Chris Devaney 11:00 Laura Dassow This is the Word of the Lord. Thanks be to God. Prayer of preparation for the study of God’s Word Sermon “God's Response to Rampant Sin” Jared Huffman, associate pastor * Hymn of response “Let Us Love and Sing and Wonder” Let us love and sing and wonder, let us praise the Savior's name, he has hushed the law’s loud thunder, he has quenched Mount Sinai’s flame, he has washed us with his blood (3x), he has brought us nigh to God. Let us love the Lord who bought us, pitied us when enemies, called us by his grace and taught us; gave us ears and gave us eyes, he has washed us with his blood (3x), he presents our souls to God. Let us wonder, grace and justice join and point to mercy’s store; when through grace in Christ our trust is, justice smiles and asks no more: he who washed us with his blood (3x), has secured our way to God.
