This is not a permanent post. The main tasks will be to monitor grant recipients using our established monitoring and review system (flexi-grant), and to support our programme manager, who is responsible for managing our research, evaluation and learning work. Our research, evaluation and learning work is mostly delivered by partner organisations. The person we are looking for will need to be able to monitor grant recipients and have knowledge of research methods, be thorough with an eye for detail, and be friendly and approachable in terms of working both with our staff team and with grant recipients. Job description Job title Monitoring and learning co-ordinator (temporary post) Accountable to Programme manager Responsible for The monitoring and learning co-ordinator does not have direct line management responsibility or any budgetary responsibility. Purpose of the role The purpose of this role is to cover some of the work of the research and learning co-ordinator while he is on secondment until 6 October 2015 and provide capacity for some other tasks while we recruit a communications co-ordinator. Job description (key duties) 1 Implement, maintain and help develop suitable, user friendly, monitoring, evaluation and strategic learning systems for Big Local. 2 Assist in maintaining appropriate administration and reporting systems, processes and procedures to ensure the smooth running of Big Local in 150 areas. 3 Work with a wide range of stakeholders, particularly Big Lottery Fund to organise visits and briefing to areas. 4 Work with partners to analyse data (qualitative and quantitative) gathered through local and central monitoring, evaluation and strategic learning systems and present findings in suitable formats. 5 Provide support to integrate different monitoring and learning elements across Big Local and Local Trust, working with relevant staff and partners. 6 Review proposals and budgets of Big Local areas within proposal forms. 7 Co-ordinate reporting from areas including monitoring of grants, the review of partnerships and plans and self-evaluation reports from areas. 8 Support the programme manager in managing the strategic learning, research and evaluation activities for Big Local. 9 Lead on working with staff and partners to prepare consolidated monitoring, evaluation and shared learning reports for stakeholders including the Big Lottery Fund. 10 Manage contacts and maintain communication with external partners, Big Local areas, funded organisations, the Big Lottery Fund, wider stakeholders and the general public to provide appropriate support, guidance and learning for the programme. 11 Support the co-ordination of research activities with partners and assist with messaging to areas and stakeholders about research projects, including contributing to social media and ad hoc blogs to assist with communication. 12 Maintain an overview of external activities/programmes devised and delivered at local, regional and national levels that support the use of community development methods and values in their implementation, bringing relevant developments to the attention of staff and partners. 13 Actively contribute to productive working relationships with all staff and external stakeholders, including those contracted to deliver work for Local Trust. Hours The full time hours of work for this post are 36 per week (excluding lunch breaks). Fixed hours are not appropriate to this position. The actual hours worked will be determined by the duties and responsibilities of the post but will usually be during normal office hours, Monday to Friday. You are not eligible for overtime pay, but you may take time off in lieu of extra-long hours worked. Holidays In addition to public holidays, there are 25 days leave per year. Duration of post This post is expected to last for a fixed period of six months. During this time performance will be regularly reviewed. In the case of unsatisfactory performance the contract will be terminated in line with the notice arrangements agreed with the agency.
