departed from our Defending Circle this past year.

Governor
The first half of the year was very memorable with success
being noted by various sports teams throughout the State. The UW-Badgers
won the Big 10 Championship and had a remarkable run through the NCAA
Tournament; the Milwaukee Bucks turned their program around and
returned to post-season playoffs. The GB Packers resigned some big name
players in an effort to return to the Super Bowl and re-establish their dynasty.
Here at Milwaukee Moose Lodge #49, another year has passed by and I
want to personally THANK the 2014-2015 Board of Officers for their dedicated
and unselfish service over the past twelve months. It has been a very
challenging time with new membership, membership retention, and finances.
The Board constantly strives to create new exciting activities and events for
our entire membership to enjoy and participate in.
Also at our Lodge #49, we recently celebrated with our 101st Anniversary.
Our Board of Officers was recently elected and some new members have
assumed positions that undoubtedly will prove to truly make a difference in
the overall efficiency and effectiveness of the operations of your Moose
Lodge. The new Board of Officers will be introduced to the membership on
Saturday evening, May 9, 2015. Please plan to attend this event and feel free
to discuss any ideas or suggestions for changes or improvements affecting
Lodge #49.
Recent events at Lodge #49 including our St. Patrick’s Day celebration, the
Kid’s Easter Party, Easter Sunday Holiday Breakfast Buffet; along with the
April Showers & Flowers Dinner were all well-attended by our membership
and turned out to be exciting, fun, and successful celebrations.
Upcoming events that we look forward to celebrating here at our Lodge
over the next couple months include the Kentucky Derby Celebration &
Dinner; the Lodge Annual Rummage Sale; our HUGE Mother’s Day Sunday
Brunch; our yearly Memorial Day Remembrance Service & holiday
celebration; Father’s Day Breakfast Brunch; not to mention the traditional
summer celebrations that coincide with various weekend ethnic festivals.
Please refer to our calendar and the special announcements and reservation
slips on page 8, 10 & 11 for more details.
In closing, please remember to pray for the Children at Mooseheart, the
Seniors at Moosehaven, and Moose Charities.
Stay healthy and safe as you travel to and from the Lodge, as well as
gathering events you celebrate with family and friends over the summer

Moose Membership
One way to get friends interested in the Moose is to invite them into the Lodge for a visit. It doesn’t
matter if it’s a Friday Night Fish Fry, a Sunday Morning Breakfast Buffet, or just a Packer Game. If you
show them a good time, the Lodge will sell itself.
As individual members of our Fraternal Order, each of us must have the proper motivation and
enthusiasm needed to be an example to our new members and our Lodge Brothers. If we are to promote
self-esteem, we are to practice it.
Giving your friends and relatives an opportunity to join our Lodge, gives them the opportunity to make
new friends. It gives our Lodge the advantage of active members, the support needed for its activities, and
a new avenue of membership. And who reaps the profit of all this? Why, our children at Mooseheart and
our senior citizens at Moosehaven, of course!
The police officer got out of his car as the kid, who was stopped for
speeding, rolled down his window. “I’ve been waiting for you all day,”
said the officer” The kid replied, “Yeah, well I got here as fast as I could!”
When the cop finally stopped laughing, he sent the kid on his way
WITHOUT a ticket.!

The “Second Degree” or Moose Legion, was
established to provide greater opportunities for
Lodge members to serve the Lodge and Fraternity.
The Moose Legion remains a strong and growing
arm of the Loyal Order of Moose. It is comprised of
thousands of Moose members in every state and
province who desire to elevate their service and
leadership skills in their Lodge and Moose Legion
jurisdiction. It is also a forum for members to direct
and lead special programs that support the
fraternity’s three basic missions: Community Service
Programs, Mooseheart and Moosehaven.

Moose Legion Eligibility
Eligibility for Moose Legion Membership has
changed. Beginning August 1, 2012 — To be
eligible for advancement to membership in the
Moose Legion, a Lodge member must have
EITHER: 1) Held active Lodge membership for a
minimum period of six months, or 2) sponsored
his first (accepted) member into the Order.

Greetings Co-Workers!
As my term expires and a new Senior Regent
comes on board, I’d like to thank everyone that
was so helpful to me during my term. I’ve made
new friendships and learned so much this past
year.
When I look back, the year has gone by so
quickly and now we have newly elected officers
who will take their positions in May. They are:
Barbara Toth, Senior Regent; Arline Sanczak, Jr.
Regent; Kathie Staszak, Recorder; Maria
Vincent, Secretary Treasurer; and myself, Betty
Rasmussen, Junior Graduate Regent. I would like
to wish them a successful year in office.
Again, I would like to thank all my fellow officers
for their help and guidance. It does take effort and
hard work in supporting our work at Mooseheart
and Moosehaven.
Since Spring is here, let’s put away our winter
clothes, scarves, mittens and boots. And while
you’re doing that, don’t forget about our Rummage
Sale on May 9th. We’re always looking for gently
used items for rummage.

Scholarship.
There is no better way to help the youth of the
Fraternity than to offer them the opportunity to
further their education and that is exactly what the R.
Robert Dale Scholarship is all about.
The following requirements must be met in
order to be eligible for the R. Robert Dale
Scholarship.
The applicant must:
 Be a student in the high school graduating Class of
2016
 Have a father, mother, step-parent, grandparent
or legal guardian who is a paid up member of the
Moose (Applicant is NOT required to reside in the
same household)
 Have a cumulative grade point average (GPA) of
2.5 (C+) or higher on a 4.0 scale
 Send the completed application by the deadline
(application must be completed in its entirety to
be valid)

Our Lodge has long recognized the importance of
building a strong membership along with retaining
members. Above are two pictures of Lodge 49’s hall.

partaking in our meetings. Do you know our meetings
are open to its members on the 2nd & 4th Tuesday of
each month? Yes! And we encourage you to attend.

may have. Ask questions. We’d love to hear from you!
The most successful organizations have come to
understand that building lasting members is essential
to create a strong base for our Lodge. Those of us
who have been with the Lodge for some time have
found our meetings, activities & events to be a most

A story is told of two brothers. They lived on adjoining
farms, but they fell into a argument, the first serious
argument in 40 years. They had often shared their
resources, but that practice stopped; and there was
nothing left but bitter words and months of silence. One
morning John answered a knock at his door. It was a
carpenter. “I’m looking for a few days work,” the
carpenter said. John said that there was something he
could do. He took the carpenter to where the two
properties met and showed him how the other brother
had taken a bulldozer and created a creek where the
meadow used to be. John said, “I know he did this to
spite me. See that pile of lumber at the barn? I want you
to help me get even by building a big fence so I won’t
have to see him or his property ever again.” The
carpenter said, “I think I understand the situation; I’ll be
able to do a job that pleases you. So the carpenter
worked hard all day. When he reported back to John,
John noticed there was no fence. The carpenter had
used his skill and built a bridge over the creek instead of
a fence. John’s brother saw the bridge and was quite
moved that his brother would do such a thing. He
started to cross the bridge. The two brothers met in the
middle and embraced. They saw the carpenter packing
his tools and asked him to stay a while and do more
work. The carpenter replied, “I’m sorry, but I have other
bridges to build.”

Please, be prepared to show your Moose I.D. to the
Doorman, Bartender, and Food Service Workers. Men
and women should have their card ready when
entering the building.
Be proud to belong to this great, private
organization and show your card. We appreciate your
cooperation!
Question: Who may come to a birthday dinner at the
Moose Lodge and do you need an invitation letter to
attend?
Answer: It is true that for the month of your birthday,
you will receive a letter inviting you to a “FREE” birthday
dinner. You may also bring your guests at the normal
price of the dinner. However, if the member’s birthday is
not in that month, you may still come but all meals will
be paid for and you must make a reservation in advance.

If you or someone in your family or circle of friends is
about to have a party soon, you will be in need of a nice
affordable hall.
Consider having your celebration in the Milwaukee
Moose Lodge 49 hall.
Our hall is very attractive and can be decorated. It
can hold 50-225 guests easily. There is a rental charge
that includes clean-up.
We also offer in-house catering service with
attractive menus and prices.

If you or a Brother Moose Member is sick,
hospitalized or distressed, please notify the Lodge.
A “Get Well” card will be sent to the sick or bedridden members. Also, with the approval of the patient,
family and hospital staff, personal visits may be
arranged. With the permission of the patient or sick
person, the progress of their condition will be
announced at the general membership meetings.
Getting sick is no fun, so let us know when it happens
so that we may send a little ray of sunshine on an
otherwise grim situation.
