Students will learn, in an interesting way, how you can ‘map’ different electrical devices to resistance in a circuit. They will surely enjoy building this novel ohm meter themselves and using it for tests. Using this tool they will investigate the difference between conductors and insulators, why some things can carry electricity, such as graphite, and some things are resistant to it, and how adding elements in a circuit changes its resistance. Among other things, the pencil allows students to create a hand drawn working piano, be challenged to play songs, and use their bodies as a real electric circuit. The best part is they get to keep it. Build your own take-home walking robot. Grade 5 – 8; 1pm – 3pm; In this adorably awesome take home, students will build their very own two-legged walking robot. After the build we will use the robot to test how changing the center of gravity affects its ability to move and ascend up a ramp. This, in turn will lead to all kinds of interesting discussion centered on the importance of center of gravity and locomotion. The best part is they get to keep it! Build your own take-home robot arm. Grade 9 – 12; 4pm – 6pm; Learn to be a creator of your own products. In this engaging and exciting robotic workshop, students will build their own controlled robot arm. Students will learn about electronics, control, electronic components and the integration of mechanical and electrical parts to assemble a device that they control.
